It ended up being a wonderful time! It was definitely "grub" food as we were all eating with our hands and chowing down. They were impressed with how the table looked (china, shells, etc) and said that the food was wonderful. Dessert disappeared in about 5 minutes!<br /> All told, it was really different from what I had originally planned, but it worked out. I'm still not planning on doing anything else big for a while though. My husband and I have an Oktoberfest party every year. This past year, we invited the usual crowd - about 60 people (knowing full well that some would be "nos," we still invite them because they're family and we have to). We got probably 40 responses, with 24 yesses. 8 people showed up. I was really upset, but my husband was FURIOUS. He says we're never throwing the party again. </p> <p>You spend so much time, effort, and money to throw these nice parties for people, and they can't even have the courtesy and decency to respond! I asked people to let me know by last Sunday. I had 1 person tell me no, nobody else responded. I started to tack down the rest and ended up with 3 yeses, another no, and 1 person who still didn't respond. Two days later I was told that a yes became a no. Today another yes became a no and 1 person still didn't let me know. Tomorrow is the dinner and another person just told me that they probably won't be able to come.<br /> Instead of a fun dinner for 7, I have a 2 people maybe coming over. It doesn't matter that I've started the cooking already, have table decor, and that I made sure to send out invites, etc.<br /> People are seriously inconsiderate sometimes! </p>
