We have fine/normal neighbors now, but at our old house we had Captain Emo Underpants - at least 30 years old, hung out all the time in his underpants and sung Emo songs on his guitar on their porch that looked directly into our dining room. He especially liked to do this when we had people over for dinner.

Oh goodness, we hit the jackpot of annoying neighbors when we moved into our neighborhood. Almost every single person who visits our house comments on them.

- First we have the people across the side street from us (we're on a corner lot) that spend all day in their front yard. There are two or three families that live next door and are friends, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that between 1 and 10 people are in their front yard at ALL HOURS of the day/night. The kids run around in the street and are constantly throwing their balls into our yard, they have been known to be outside grilling at 2:00 in the morning on a weeknight, and they've gotten into drunken fights and thrown lawn furniture at one another...at 3:00 in the afternoon. On a weekday. We've called the cops on them on more than one occasion.

- Then, there's the guy that lives a few houses down from them who is learning how to play the drums. He's a grown man and has been working on learning for approximately two years now. Every night (EVERY NIGHT) he goes into his garage and bangs on the drums for upwards of 4 hours. And he has not improved one iota since he started practicing. Every once in a while he gets a wild hair and decides to sing too, and it's not much better than his drum playing.

- Oh, and there's the guy that lives a few houses down from us that honks his horn (loudly and for entirely too long) every day when he gets home from work. DH and I joke that he's warning his wife's boyfriend to get out of the house before he gets home.

Eh, I think I'm the naked neighbor. More like usually in a bathrobe or underwear.

My neighbors on either side smoke pot, like a lot of it. I
I can see the house on one side hotboxed, whatever. But on the other side they smoke multiple times a day outside, especially during the summer. Good thing it's going to be legal next year here for them I guess. I just don't like to be breathing it in while hanging in my backyard.

@Mrs. Bird: Wow! Your collective group of awful neighbours really take the cake.

The worst we've had was once this summer when someone on our street called the city cops to hand out parking tickets on a Saturday morning. Technically, in our neighbourhood you are only allowed to park on street for 3 consecutive hours between the hours of 5pm and 7am, even on Saturdays. But everyone does it for longer, even during the week.

I know who it was too because the couple stood on their front porch and watched the guy give out tickets. It might even have been directed at us, because we had an unsightly metal container taking up our whole driveway to contain the dirt we were removing from our backyard so we could put in a stone patio (and all the crushed aggregate and sand that goes underneath) - for 4 whole days! Luckily, I was in the back redistributing the dirt when the cop came by. He suggested I just take our two cars and drive them around the block until the chalk came (used to mark the 3 hrs) off the tires. I waved at the neighbours up the road standing on their porch and they gave me dirty looks, but we didn't get a ticket. The crazy thing is these people park on the street ALL the time, so you know they were just being jerks.

Well our semi-detatched home is attached to FIL's rental property, which often has some not so great people living in it, but nothing too bad. My biggest complaint is them smoking in their house and the smoke seeps in to our home. Our neighbors on the other side are actually great people. The people across the street and behind us have never been a problem/even talked to us.

Well, my across the street neighbor decided to take down a wall while drunk, so he stole our trash can when his got full. His gf made him bring it back but the garbage truck didn't pick up their garbage for two weeks because there was so much construction debris. So he kept bringing his garbage over to our house so they would pick it up.

@honeybear: @MrsHansen82: There's actually a guy who walks his dog down our street and brings him up onto our front lawn to go to the bathroom every. single. day. Sometimes he doesn't clean it up if he thinks it's close enough to the brush or that no one sees him. I don't think he realized he was in our direct line of vision through our front window, so now I've taken to standing in the window and staring whenever I hear him walk up. We also now have a dog that barks when he does it and startles him. I wouldn't really care if he cleaned up every time because I know some dogs just won't poop on the sidewalk and need to go on the grass, but our dog will eat other dogs poop so it's super annoying.

Our next door neighbors in England were Lithuanian criminals who had their house raided for firearms and drugs, then they were all raided and arrested for human trafficking (importing people from Lithuania, taking their passports and then forcing them to work), THEN we had to call the cops on them for a group of about 20 of them jumping a dude in front of our house.... and then on top of that their house got broken into and we had cops all over asking us questions.

Not to mention that they were unfriendly assholes who parked all over the street so that the school buses couldn't get through.... they got their mirror taken off by one once.... it was freakin hilarious. And they used to throw loud parties until the early hours.

This makes me SO thankful to be on 2 acres surrounded by trees. I can just barely see the the neighbors house through the tree/brush in the winter. My mom thought it was too far from people and that our future kids wouldn't be able to play with the neighbors, but no close neighbors beats bad neighbors.

across the hall we have a lovely family, the husband was upset about my BIL having a fit and breaking things in the hallway (which i paid them for and mr. bird apologized for), so he cut my tires. he also took a baseball bat to his wife's headlights when she tried to leave. recently at their daughter's birthday party, the music was so loud we couldn't hear the TV, they had the door from their apt open to the hallway and were letting the kids run & scream in the halls, so we waited til 10pm, then mr bird went over and said, 'hey, i don't mean to bother you guys, but if you wouldn't mind keeping it down a little, we're trying to watch a movie and can't hear the TV over the noise' and they freaked out and started screaming about how they never have parties... yes, that makes sense since we're complaining about your party :bummed: when we went out the next morning, they had put doughnuts all over my things on my shelves in the carport.

below us there is this guy that likes to blast his stereo & make my floor shake. he has a toddler so i'm not sure how that works. their new baby should be here soon, so i'm sure the music will be replaced with crying, although i often hear him turn it up to drown out the toddler crying so maybe not.

across the street the two homes are empty because they burnt when someone left a cigarette on the porch. they were always sitting there on the porch, i swear they never went anywhere!

next door the children were terrors, they used to steal shopping carts and put them on the roof of my carport, they also had races down our driveway (they don't have off street parking). the people who had the window across from my br, their baby used to wake me up all the time during the night over the summer. it was so sad, no one ever went to him, they would just scream at the baby to shut up.

i like the people on the first floor. well, one lady is nice, we don't talk since she doesn't speak english, but she always smiles and never gets mad when i bang on the door to tell them their cat want to come in (they leave it out in terrible weather, so it waits for me to let it in the building and walk it to their apt). her husband is a dick, but she's nice. the other people on the first floor are nice, they just yell a lot.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: We are those people. We had a baby, my husband had surgery, and life got busy so we are just pretending the leaves aren't there. We did apologize to our neighbor when we noticed our leaves were starting to blow into his yard too.

The neighbors to our left have not even said one word to us. They've had parties and had everyone park in front of our house and never even so much as said a "thank you." I cling to this fact when I remember I have a very belated thank you letter to my across the street neighbors for the food they brought us when I had the baby... back in August.

We were the annoying neighbors with the overgrown yard (poison ivy!!), until we hired a pro to completely overhaul it this summer. I didn't realize how much everyone noticed the bad yard until EVERY neighbor stopped to tell us how great it looks now. Whoops!

That being said, our next door neighbor regularly comes onto our property (the woodsy area between our two houses, so it's still fairly woodsy even after the gut-landscaping is done) and rakes our leaves. In the woods! We had our property surveyed before we started the landscaping and so there are all these little orange flags along the property line. She rakes around them and maybe 15 feet into our property. It drives me BANANAS but DH doesn't care because it's the freaking woods, who rakes the woods? (maybe I'm an idiot and you're supposed to rake the woods?) When we were having tree work done, we had to tie an orange ribbon on every tree we wanted cut down. This neighbor actually took one of the ribbons off one of the already cut down trees, and tied it to another of our trees. WTF? Luckily the tree guy was like, 'Lady, what are you doing? This isn't your tree, and we don't work for you.'

I can't really complain though, if those are my biggest issues, haha.

Oh I should mention our neighbors.

We live in a townhouse complex and everyone keeps to themselves.

Though our garages face each other and the neighbor with the garage that faces ours every few months parks a car in front of his garage which makes it impossible for use to drive in and out of garage.

When we first moved in he did this almost every night... we chit chatted with him and told him it was a fire hazard which it was (aka we could call the police and have his car towed.... but of course wanted to talk to him first) and now he only does it maybe once every few months if he can't find street parking and is very aware of us and moves it when he sees our garage open. So it worked out great. :) We don't mind as long as we can get in and out of garage.

Our apartment faces a courtyard. Each place around the courtyard has a balcony (or patio if they're on the first floor) so my biggest complaint is people going out onto the balcony or into the courtyard late at night and being noisy. And I'm not talking like 10 or 11 p.m., I'm talking 2, 3, or even 4 in the morning! The enclosed courtyard amplifies sound so it's practically like they're in the room with you. Even ear plugs won't block it fully. One time, a guy started playing the BONGOS at 4 a.m. on his patio. Wtf? And it was not Matthew McConnaughey...

@Raindrop: LOL.

This is probably minor compared to some, but the neighbours across the street from us decided to build their own fence and landscape their own yard. Except.... neither one of them seems to have an ounce of style as far as their yard goes. Their fence is not level and is falling over already (it's been a year I think!) and the front yard "landscaping" is absolutely hideous. I hate looking at it and usually want to tear it up. Such a mess.

We have some new neighbors that have an extremely aggressive dog. LO thinks this dog is his best friend and doesn't understand yet that this dog wants to maul him, not play with his toys. (This is not just barking....it's angry snarling, jumping, and all around scary behavior...I love dogs and have never met one this mean.) Fortunately there are two fences between us and about a 1.5 foot gap....the dog can almost jump over their fence, but it would be impossible for it to clear both and make it into our yard. It's really annoying when we are outside though. :(
