When we started whole milk in Dec, we let her have it in a bottle before bed for the first night, then tried the straw cup. She took some then we had to pour the rest in the bottle. This took place the next 2 nights but then she was fine with finishing from the cup and we've never looked back. Good luck!

Well, that didn't work as well as planned. He had no interest in taking his milk from the straw cup and our caregiver wound up pouring the milk into his bottle and he took all of it. 3 times.

Trying again tomorrow with a different sippy cup to see if that helps at all.

@Periwinkle: good luck! we were worried that he'd have a problem with it, and he didn't. The only time he asked for a bottle was when his sister was first born and was getting one, he wanted one then too. We just threw out his size nipples and said babies get bottles not big boys(not that at 15 months he understood haha) but he never asked again

@sarbear, @birdofafeather: So good to know that your LOs didn't have any trouble with this transition. We are giving it a try today so we shall see how it goes! I am dreaming of how much more organized my kitchen counter will look without all of the bottle paraphernalia!

We also cut them cold turkey at 12 months. She hardly got them though so we just packed them away and give her straw cups with milk. She doesn't drink as fast but she's never refused.

LO is almost 15 months old and we have been putting off bottle weaning at his babysitter's for way too long. We just got home from a vacation and decided to try a "cold turkey" approach tomorrow since he has not had many bottles this week (I still nurse him-at home, only am and pm, but this vacation I nursed more often).

I am wondering if anyone has had any success doing this? I will bring an empty bottle just in case he refuses the straw cup, but I'm curious if this worked for anyone.
