I'm in awe of those of you who get on hands/knees to clean!

I think I decided I just need to clean on Sundays instead of Saturdays, lol. There's just too much traffic on a weekend it's impossible to keep the floor clean!
I did change the mop head on my steam mop this weekend (so 2 vs. 1), and made it more of a point to go with the grain like @Iced Tea: suggested.

We have hardwood floors. I sweep and vacuum almost daily/multiple times a week. I also clean with hot water and vinegar. I have a soft mop, but usually use rags.

Vacuum multiple times a week and use a bucket and a cloth on my hands and knees with Murphy’s oil soap for tile and wood. It’s harder while pregnant, but I find mops just don’t work for me.

@Iced Tea: Me too re: dog with foot prints. I wipe her paws every time she comes back from outside, but she loves licking her paws and I've just come to live with that...

@MaryM: Or a dog, hehe! Thrown food is one thing I never even think about b/c my dog inhales it all before we're done with a meal :silly: But pretty sure cleaning lady is cheaper, lol!

We have wood laminate too. When we first moved in, I despaired of ever getting it cleaned because repeated heavy mopping wasn’t doing it; our feet were always gray from the floor! Then I bought the Bona laminate floor cleaner, and it changed everything. I spray it and wipe with a microfiber mop (after Roomba vacuums and I swiffer). If I go with the wood grain, you can’t see any streaks. There are some minimal streaks if I go against the grain with the Bona.

We also bought giant indoor/outdoor rugs at Costco that live on both sides of our doors to minimize things being dragged in. And we don’t wear shoes in the house. We do have a dog who leaves footprints, but I’ve accepted that.

@josina: We started off using a drop cloth kind of thing under his high chair. It's SO annoying to have a high chair on wood floors, but we have no choice! But he throws so much it just wasn't working and we gave up. DH is constantly sweeping/dry mopping on the weekends. As long as I can't see chunks, I just let it go!

I can't wait until we can afford a cleaning lady again...

@josina: I use 1 side and then flip to the other. I bought a lot of replacements off Amazon (I have a Shark one, but just bought non-branded pads) so I don't have to wash them all the time!

Well, I'm glad to hear that I'm mopping often enough. I HAVE to sweep daily in the kitchen/dining, my 2 are so messy.

@MaryM: Good motto... just learn to accept that it will not be clean with littles!
@graceandjoy: Do you just use one mop pad for the whole floor when you steam mop? Mine is filthy once I get the entry/kitchen done, and then I having dining/living on the other side. Thinking maybe I should start using 2 and maybe I'd not get the streaks.

We have hard wood, and while I know it's supposedly a no no to use a steam mop, ours is sealed and I just just low heat b/c I like the disinfecting aspect. I do it twice a week but I don't get streaks? We also are strictly no shoes in the house. I do have a dog and 2 kids so twice a week is the minimum plus any spot cleaning as needed.

I vacuum daily (crawling kiddo + preschoolers + large dog). Then the cleaners mop with a wet mop every 3 weeks

I use a Bona mop/ microfiber cloth type thing, plus sweep more often since the kids drop crumbs constantly. But I’m also very much not that picky. We have no shoes in the house, no pets, and the kids only eat at the table, so aside from the kitchen areas where I make the food and around the table, it usually isn’t too bad.

I think I had read on here that Bona is best for wood floors though.

We have hardwoods and use a microfiber dry mop most of the time, then mop occasionally. I figure with a one year old who throws food from his high chair, our floors are never really going to be super clean. We mostly spot clean around his high chair.

Our dust mop is the long loopy kind. When we mop, I have a reusable microfiber pad that velcros on to a flat mop (like a swiffer type thing, but not disposable). I wash with super hot water and vinegar and ring out the mop pad super well before wiping the floor. The hotter the water, the faster it evaporates and the faster it's dry, the less it streaks or leaves any mark.

We have wood. I use roomba + dyson + down on my hands and knees to scrub off food or mud with an all purpose cleaner. But we are really strict about no shoes in house and do not have pets, so they don't get that bad....

2 part question...
How do you clean your hard floors.. yarn mop/wet jet/steam mop, etc. and what kind of chemicals, if any?
How often do you clean them?

We have wood laminate, and I used to use a yarn mop, I own a wet jet that I mainly use for spot-cleaning, and got a steam mop for Christmas that I love... but I still get streaks and they drive me crazy! I clean on Saturdays, but wondering if I should be mopping more often... doesn't help that we live in the country so there is constantly dirt/mud/dust being brought in.

Tell me your secrets to clean floors!
