@cascademom: I tried the thermometer....no dice.

I called the dr office and spoke with a nurse, she is going to have our regular doc call us back. She brought up miralax as a possibility but I will see what the dr suggests.

I would call the doctor. Otherwise, would a Windi work for you guys? Even using a rectal thermometer can sometimes get the pooping started. I know that EBF babies can go longer without pooping. My LO was gassy colicky, so the Windi got things working before the rest of his body caught up with it. My LO is 15-16 months old. He usually poops 1-2 times a day on solids.

@Silva: That I can't help you with! DS is 4.5months so I'm sure I'll be referencing this thread in a couple months when we start solids!

I would call the doctor and see what they say. If I'm worried, I call. That's what they're there for! I think it may be unusual for a primarily breastfed baby to go that long between movements.

@Alivoo01: shouldn't they poop more once they start solids though?

@LuLu Mom: this has been going on for a long time, and dietary changes don't seem to make a huge difference. Maybe I should ask about that

When we dealt with severe constipation, we started with Miralax, we were told it was easier on her tummy than suppository...my daughter was in pain though. This helped naturally get it out the next day (small amounts helped have soft bowel movements, too much would cause the opposite!) My doc said it is safe for daily use to get them regular. we didn't need it regularly.

I brought this up to my pedi bc DS doesn't poop daily either and is gassy. Not sure what to do about the gas even though I give him gas meds. As for the poop, the pedi said EBF babies don't poop often if they absorb all that they eat so it's not a bad thing she doesn't poop frequently.

I read through a bunch of other posts on this....my question is when to step up the intervention? Like, when should I get concerned?

LO hasn't pooped at all in 4.5 days (today is day 5). Nothing. Before this she was having one or two small, clay-consistency poops. After several weeks of "unsatisfactory" poops we gave her a tiny bit of a glycerine suppository on Saturday. She had a larger poop, and it was softer, but nothing to write home about (ha!).
After that I got worried about giving her prune juice/ cider (the doc recommended the cider) so much, and switched to just offering water.
Today I've been giving her prune juice and cider using a medicine dropper (most effective way to get it in her). I give daily belly massages when I change diapers and during bath.

Would you try another suppository? She is straining today, and was very gassy yesterday (straining and then she'd fart). Today after she strains there is a tiny bit of poo on her butt, just a smear when I wipe her. She doesn't seem to be in pain when she strains- not crying or whining.

I feel like I call the doctor about my kids poop way more than a person should. My husband is ready to try another suppository, but I hate to do it if she is going to work it out on her own. Plus, if she isn't in pain, maybe this is just the way she is?

Sorry for writing so much about poop. I hate how much I think about this s$@& now (haha).

Eta: she is 7.5 months. Breastmilk and solids (although not much, because we do table foods and she can't get much in her mouth)
