@hellobeeboston: That was my hope, but the opposite has proved true! Maybe by kindergarten :)
@Eminthevalley: I need to ask how thoroughly they clean daily. I'm pretty sure there's a janitor, but not positive!

@Mrs.Pinecone316: @pachamama: My doctor said the same! Maybe the constantly shifting temps?

@travellingbee: Hope you guys all starry fling better soon!

@KayKay: That's a good point. We've had less funky stiff and more the usual colds/tummy bugs.

Thanks for the input! Hope all the sick kiddos start feeling better asap!

@oscarthegoon: Haha, thanks! I'd forgotten I'd even posted this.

@muffinsmuffins: I think you're right. I got fed up and brought my daughter back AGAIN to the doc and he finally prescribed antibiotics. Two days in and she is better than she has been in months!

I think it's also just different as they age. When they are super little, I feel like LO got all of the colds + chickenpox (!!!) + roseola + maybe a mild case of HFM. Then it got better in terms of not CONSTANTLY being sick with new stuff, but we hand long/lingering colds & coughs. Then the next year it was better in terms of colds, but we definitely had a couple belly bugs. This year we've only had one pretty bad cold and an ever-lasting belly bug.

Infants just catch everything, toddlers put everything in their mouths, and preschoolers are sharing the potty + things that aren't as easy to keep totally clean of lingering germs (markers, scissors, etc). So it's just impossible to avoid, I think!

FWIW, my doc said this season was brutal. Lots of flu, infant viruses and that terrible stomach bug (we got it twice!). I'm in the northeast.

Daycare has been brutal for my niece this year. She's caught pretty much everything. She was sick a lot last year as a baby too but I do think its a particularly bad year for colds and flu.

So the first two years of daycare my twins got sick all the time. Between the two of them there would be literally weeks straight of sickness, and numerous canceled events/vacations because of it! Now they are in preschool and so far just two colds each. I think there are a few factors: 1) better immune systems? 2) the janitor cleans their classroom every day, which I'm sure is more thorough than the in-home daycare did, and 3) as soon as they get in the classroom, the teachers make them wash their hands, and as soon as they get home I make them wash their hands. So I think it's a combination of getting older, not putting everything in their mouths, handwashing, and general cleanliness.

My LO was sick for probably 3 months straight the first year of daycare... Then the second year he was sick a lot, not as bad as the first year, but he seemed to catch everything that was going around :( Luckily, his third year, when he was older, he got sick only once or twice... it definitely gets better!

Maybe their immune system isn't bouncing back in between? DS had a hospitalization for RSV this year and got another way less severe case of RSV 2-3 weeks after we got home. Doctor said they can be more susceptible after a big illness so we started multi vitamin and probiotics, hand washing more, etc. So my fingers are crossed. Maybe that's what's happening?

I have not experienced this, but I'm so sorry you are! The daycare should still be enforcing good hygiene habits! I mainly replied to give you a bump up the boards

Has anyone experienced daycare illnesses getting worse instead of better each year? My LO rarely got sick as an infant or young toddler, but the last two winters have been brutal. Is it because there are so many more kids in preschool classes than infant classes? Do they stop worrying as much about hygiene? I feel so guilty that my kid is literally always sick. :crying:
