@coopsmama: poor kid. I was mad at myself all weekend for not taking C in Saturday morning, so I finally brought her this morning and she's fine- no ear infection, it was just a virus she's fighting off. And I still sort of kick myself for not taking her sooner.

But with her fevers this weekend, if she had seemed to feel ok, I wouldn't treat, but she was obviously feeling crappy so I did give her plenty of Motrin and Tylenol. I was never told anything about making them be miserable with a fever. (Yes to not treating it if they are fine though).

@Truth Bombs: Blah, I'm so irritated by the advice to wait and see now haha. I realize it might work in some cases but since this is my daughter for some reason I feel somewhat outraged. :silly: :meh: I feel like it did nothing but prolong her feeling crummy.

@lawbee11: We've been giving Motrin at night before bed but haven't throughout the day just because our doctor said the fever was helping fight the infection -- but the poor girl has been at 103.5 almost all day. It's so hard to know what to do!

@matador84: I'll be doing this in the future if she has another one. Fortunately my kids don't seem prone so far -- this one only followed a bad cold with lots of drainage. So I'm hoping we won't be in this boat for awhile -- especially with the weather warming up.

@Truth Bombs: same here. The one he had was a really bad one and it took 2 full days until he was fever free and back to somewhat normal.

Less than 24 hours. I usually try and get a dr appt first thing in the am and head to pharmacy and give first dose right after. Lots of sleep in the afternoon and then usually a much better night the first night.

I'd give it a couple of days. Have you also tried Tylenol or Motrin? Those help immensely when LO has a fever and/or is feeling crappy.

Since your LO was feeling so bad I would probably give it 48 hours before you expected a marked improvement. For us at least it always depends on how bad it is by the time we catch it, the worse it is, the longer it takes for the antibiotics to really make a difference. Hope she feels better soon!

We've only had one but she was noticeably better within a day. Still took several days to be herself but there was a clear difference in that first day.

Less than 24 hours...sometimes the same day if the first dose was early enough.

How long did it seem to take for the antibiotics to start working when your LO had an ear infection? Since this is our first time dealing with this I have no reference point and am just curious!
