Well, guys, I went with the lame option and ordered another Medela. After a late / hassled / frustrating morning only having to get ONE kid out of the house today, I thought to myself....I cannot deal with one more tiny complication (even as tiny as those little yellow adapters for the Spectra, ha!).

So, hopefully my new Medela will do me as well as the first one did. And I already know I have all the parts and a bag it fits easily in, etc etc. Thanks for all the help!

@mfa_lady: the freemies come with a short tubing and piece that connects to the Pisa tubing. Then, you put the cups in your bra and the tubing goes under your shirt (or can just stick out the top.) the tubing just slides into the top of the cups (at the 12:00 position). They're not super discreet since they give you Madonna boobs, but so much better than the horns!

So the circuits all blew out in the pump room today during my only break during 6 hours of meetings. By the time we figured out that the problem was with the room, not my pump, my next meeting was starting. I had to pump during a conference call or leak everywhere. I pumped with my spectra and no one heard my spectra. You could totally hear the sound from the PISA my colleague was using.

As for parts, I haven't needed replacements and I pump into Avent bottles. I cannot recommend it enough!

@mfa_lady: Omg, I could've written this post just yesterday. I wrote my requisite pump post a few weeks back about PISA vs Freestyle and then never made up mind. Yesterday I finally got around to doing more research on PISA starter and S2 (both $0 with insurance) and Freestyle ($199 upgrade). After going round and round and reading tons of reviews and boards, I opted for the S2. I didn't vote because I haven't used it yet, but thought I'd share how I made up my mind.

I just couldn't get over the upgrade price and the lower pump rating of the Freestyle which was my #1 choice going into this. The S2's selling points for me were was that it's lighter than the PISA (contradicts what you've read?), quieter than the PISA and I felt better about the closed system. I've never had a pump (or a baby!) so I don't have the stash of supplies like you and I did consider it a negative that Spectra parts aren't so widely available as Medela parts, but the weight, noise and closed system issues outweighed the bad.

I'll be interested to hear what you decide!

I am in the same situation and I got a spectra this time. I actually got an Ameda with my first (only thing they would send) and I bought a Medela PISA out of pocket. Worked much better. This time I am getting a spectra. I still have my PISA, but I definitely want to try out the spectra. I'm getting the adapters so I can use my medela flanges though. As for all the bottles. I already have 4 medela bottles and like 8 ameda bottles. I just pumped into the 4 at work and used my others for fridge storage. So I'm just going to do the same this time. Pump into spectra bottles, transfer them to the others at home for storage.

@LCTBQE: I did but I've only used it once 😝. I had a Freestyle the first time so I can't compare it to the PISA. It seems pretty good but it is huge. If they'd been comparable in price I'd probably prefer another freestyle just based on the portability factor. But I did get good output the one time I used the spectra.

I have this same question! There are lactation rooms where I work that have Medela symphony's in them, so I'm likely to just keep with Medela since the part are mostly interchangeable between the PISA and symphony...

@Shantuck: That was exactly my thought process! I was concerned that the pump was just not effective for me, so I was willing to try something new. I've found for this baby that I just produce more milk overall because I pump with both the Spectra and the Medela and I get about the same amount with both. However, I would imagine for some ladies that might not be the case!

I had the PISA last time but am going Spectra this time. I had heard that there were conversion pieces you could buy for the Spectra to use the PISA parts and most reviews I read when I was researching say that the Spectra was much better. I had supply issues when I went back to work last time so I guess that is why I'm motivated to try something new.

@mfa_lady: I had a Medela PISA for LO1 and I got the Spectra S2 for LO2. I do find that the Spectra is quieter than the Medela. I bought a set of connector pieces for the Medela bottles/flanges so that they can be used with the Spectra. Best of both worlds IMHO! :)

@mfa_lady: I used a medela in the hospital for a few days but I had already ordered the spectra s2. I prefer pumps that have a closed system so that made me go for the spectra. I love everything about it, however I looked online and saw some of the reviews mention that the markings on the bottle fade away and I have already noticed some fading. but i still would chose the spectra over medela because of the barrier that makes it a closed system. I have seen online hacks that allow you to use your medela parts with a spectra pump so you might want to check that out.

I don't know anything about the other pump, but I can say that I am in the same boat and I plan on sticking with another PISA because I can't stand the idea of having two different sets of parts... I had a few nightmare situations where I left something at work or home and it was such a pain! I can only imagine with 2 kids and 2 pumps and less sleep I would lose or forget something or bring the wrong pieces!

@catomd00: Okay, talk to me about this! I can hardly bear having to have two sets of bottles, so am leaning toward another PISA. How does the Freemie connector kit work?

I know there are a million posts about this, but I'm starting yet another one because I really can't decide. If you've used one or both, let me know what you think!

I had a Medela PISA with DD1, and it did just fine. I assumed I'd get the same thing for DD2 (due in a month), but there are tons more options this time around. (The Freemie is one, too, but I think I've decided against that.) I've narrowed it down to:

Medela PISA
-Pro: I can use all the same parts and bottles. (This is big...seems like a pain to have two sets of parts. I'd like to keep one pump at work and one at home if possible.)

Spectra S2:
-Pro: I've heard great things. IS IT WORTH IT?!
-Con: Different parts. See above.
-Con: Bigger than the PISA (Is this true?)

HELP ME! Please?
