My cousin had GD and did everything right - she was even eating less carbs than they recommend - and her blood sugar level wouldn't stabilize. They put her on meteor in pills first, then moved her on to something stronger (another pill). She enter ended up on insulin though.

I don't need insulin yet but my Dr told me he would put me on it if my fasting numbers were over 100. So far they are in the high 70s and 80s.

Did any of the bees who have/had GD have to go on insulin at any point? And what were your numbers when your doctor made that decision?

My post-meal numbers have all been great and within range, but my fasting blood sugar is anywhere from high 80s to low 100s. The past few days have been 66, 88, 96, 88, and 101. I retested on a different finger, different hand after getting 101, and got 94. Which is baffling.

My fasting bg level on the test was 78 and the nurse said that tells her there's a remote chance I'll need to be on insulin, but I know that numbers can creep up as you go further along, too.

I know everybody and every doctor is different, but I'm just curious.

Is there anything you can even do about fasting blood sugar? I read all these different things about trying a high-protein snack, trying a high-carb snack, trying no snack, etc. I've just been sticking to my meal plan, which is one carb and one protein before bed/10 hours before breakfast.

The diabetes nurse told me not to worry because my meter can be 10-15 points off. But my negative brain says, "Oh, that means you could really have a fasting blood sugar of like 110-115, Ladyfingers. Tsk tsk."
