I had a small one at my 6+5 ultrasound. It explained my spotting on and off for a few weeks I think. I wasn't told to rest or anything, but I personally tried to take it really easy. It wasn't bed rest, but I tried to do as little as possible. I don't know if it helped or not, but it can't hurt to treat your body more gently at this time.

I really hope things turn around positively for you.

Take this with a grain of salt, but when I had an sch after Ivf (and it was pretty bad) at 6 weeks, my RE was extremely reassuring. she said they are extremely common with Ivf and not a big concern. Maybe she just said that to keep me calm, but it worked. Not sure if you had Ivf (but you mentioned an re) so thought I would pass it along. Good luck!!

ETA - that being said, I agree with others where I probably would not fly either. Not because I think it would do any real damage, but because god forbid something happened you wouldn't want to second guess yourself.

I had a suspected SCH, or otherwise unknown bleeding, during my first trimester. I was put on bed rest. I really think that rest saves babies. But I also know that lots of other doctors don't advocate bed rest so I would just do what you feel comfortable doing and won't give you any regrets later on.

No SCH experience but I wouldn't travel in the event the outcome is not good. I really don't want to be a debbie downer, but my SIL had a MC a flights distance from home and that itself was traumatic for her.

All that negative stuff said, I'm always hoping and praying for you.

I had a moderate (leaning towards large) SCH and my OB does not put anyone on bed rest for SCH as she is very convinced that there is zero medical evidence to suggest that bed rest helps in any way. She told me no sex, no tampons to deal with the bleeding, and to “take it easy” but left the definition of “take it easy” up to me. I asked her about whether I should work from home or modified bed rest and she really stressed that basically, there was nothing I could do to help the SCH resolve and that normal life activity shouldn’t make things worse.

I did fly twice before my SCH resolved and felt fine doing so, but that’s a totally personal decision.

I had a SCH at 13 weeks (which was late so i was told) and i wa put on modified bed rest. that meant i could be up and about for 10 minutes at a time but i mostly layed around. ive heard also that it really doesnt help though, so i think your RE is probably just unsure of what to tell you. If you feel better going about your normal life it sounds like that woud be fine. If you would feel better resting i think thats okay too.

As for your trip, since you have an elevated chance of miscarriage right now I would probably consider what it might be like to experience away from home and whether you would prefer tobe home in case something happens. I dont think the flying itself will be risky.

Im so sorry. When mine was first diagnosed my OB kinda gave me the well this could go either way kind of talk.

I think you do have to make a decision for yourself what you would like to do and how protective you want to be. From what I researched there is no medical study to show that bed rest helps heal a SCH. For me, I felt fine going to work (desk job) but anything more than grocery shopping I skipped. I dont think I would have felt comfortable walking through an airport and flying.

I can go back to and try to see if I can find how big mine was. I believe it was rather large.

It's me again, with another question about SCH. I saw my RE today, and it really opened more questions than it resolved. He started by saying he was very concerned about the SCH causing miscarriage (according to the ultrasound report, it was moderately sized). Then he said to take it easy. When I asked what that means his response was "I don't know, if you want, I can write you a note to get out of work." So I asked if full bed rest would be helpful, and his response was "I don't want you lying down too much, and your baby is two millimeters, seriously I don't know what you can actually do. Just stay hydrated." Then he pulled up the images and said "actually, it looks small, who knows, it looks really small here. So maybe it's pretty small. Before 24 weeks, we know nothing and can do nothing, so who knows, really it's whatever."

I think he's just being honest that there's no conclusive scientific evidence about how to heal an SCH, so he has no basis to make a recommendation, but I'm still at a bit of a loss for what to do. I don't have a follow up for two weeks (and the fetal heart rate also wasn't looking good today, so that's another problem). I'm supposed to travel for work in a week and a half. It's a trip I've made dozens of times and don't find tiring, but it does involving flying. I'm at a bit of a loss for whether I should tell work and not go or just keep trying to take it easy. Just curious what other's experiences have been...
