@NovBaby1112: yup! I agree with PP's that what you're doing sounds perfect for a 4 month old. Great job!

I think what you are doing sounds great. It sounds similar to what we have done with our girls. As long as she isn't completely out she is learning to fall asleep on her own:)

@NovBaby1112: I think what you're doing is perfectly "acceptable" since her eyes are open and she's still falling asleep on her own. Drowsy but awake is the goal :)

@NerdBee: shes 4 months old. does that change your answer? lol. she's def not dead asleep when we put her in. her eyes are open and she looks around for a bit, gets comfy, sucks thumb and passes right out. but she first falls asleep nursing or being rocked, i just make sure to wake her up before i put her down. i guess i am just confused if i am sleep training correctly and wanted to make sure! all so confusing :)

How old is your LO? As long as she isn't dead asleep when you put in the crib she will learn how to fall asleep by herself. This is a common way to sleep train without crying. As your LO gets more used to falling asleep by herself, you can put her to bed more and more awake. But at the beginning, drowsy but awake is perfect.

So I am a little confused on this whole sleep training thing. I am wondering if I am doing it wrong. We start our bedtime routine usually 45 mins after she wakes up from last cat nap, as it usually takes a half hour to do (book, bath, massage, song, nurse, rock/burp, sleep sack). She ALWAYS ends up falling asleep either nursing or when I am rocking and burping her. However, I always make sure to wake her up a bit before putting her in her crib- usually by changing diaper or putting on sleep sack. She is awake when she goes down, but very drowsy. Usually just sucks her thumb for a few seconds, repositions herself and gets comfy and passes out. Should I not be allowing her to fall asleep while nursing? Am I doing this whole sleep training thing wrong? Should she be going in crib completely awake so she knows how to fall asleep on own? sorry for all the questions, its all so confusing!
