@scg00387: Check out thebabywearer.com FSOT boards too. I've seen a few basic slings pop up for great prices lately!

@Mrs. Twine: No worries! That makes sense about using that arm. Duh. I ended up returning it to Amazon; I messed around with it a few more times and LO just kept trying to dive out of it. I am SO sad, where we moved from had a babywearing group with a lending library and stores where I could try on but here... nada.

@weagle No worries! It did feel like the padding was making it more slippery. I am going to see if a used one pops up on diaperswappers that seems reasonable and would be easy to resell without losing value.

Eek! I didn't get a notification either. Sorry, friend! I've never used a Maya, but it always seemed to me that padded slings didn't get a good spread across the shoulder. I'm not a fan either. The shoulder spread is definitely key for comfort! Other than that, make sure he's got a good seat (fabric under knees and between you two) and that he's "high and tight." Also, spreading the fabric across your back can help. Sometimes it can get rolled and bunched up. I carry my almost 20lber with no problems, so I don't think size should've an issue at this point.

Aw man, I am so sorry-- this didn't send me a message even though you mentioned me. I swear to goodness I jumped as soon as I saw it, though! I am thinking it's doing that because you are using that arm. Are you making sure to spread the fabric over your whole shoulder? The unfortunate side effect of that is, that while it distributes the weight better, it means that you have one slightly less useful arm. So... when you want to use the arm you can bunch it up closer to your neck (like in your picture) or just transfer him to the hip opposite the arm you want full mobilty in. I've put Ellie (50lbs) in a ring sling before, and while I wouldn't wear her for long, your son at 20lbs should be more than do-able. Personally I don't like padded shoulders; it's possible that the padding is making the problem worse... I'd be happy to try to skype with you or something of that nature so it's easier for me to see what you're doing and give feedback. :)

I ordered a maya since amazon has free returns but it is not as easy as I'd hoped. I have two ?s

It kept creeping up to my neck - is this a problem bc of the padding? Inexperience? How maya does the shoulder?

Even when LO was cooperating it felt super heavy. Was I wrong in thinking ring slings would work for us even though he is 20+ pounds??

I love the boba but its sooo hot tummy to tummy at the farmers market!! @mrstwine @weagle I'm imposing on you two kind baby wearing souls again! @navy_mommy ?
