I have an anterior placenta as well, it took until 22 weeks to feel regular good movement and now she's a crazy kicking/rolling machine. They have had no trouble finding her heartbeat with the doppler, they told me at my A/S.

@cvbee: I am a side sleeper (only very rarely sleep on my tummy!!)

They haven't had any trouble w/ ultrasounds or w/ finding the heartbeat on the doppler, so maybe mine's a mildly anterior position. The tech said "I'll call this anterior right" whatever that means.

@cvbee: I've never, ever slept on my stomach & have an anterior placenta - I get hideous headaches if I even lay on my stomach for any length of time. neat poll, though! I voted.

@cvbee: That's interesting - I never thought about the sleeping position affecting the position of the placenta. As of my 13 week scan, my placenta was in the anterior position and partially covering my cervix as well - although they think it will move up with time and placenta previa shouldn't be an issue. It's definitely anterior though and not likely to move over to posterior so I guess I will be another one who has to wait a few more weeks before I feel anything - I'm 16 weeks tomorrow, so still a ways to go I guess.

I had one, but was usually able to find the heartbeat with the doppler but couldn't get an ultrasound in the OB's office, even with an internal wand. I had to go to the ultrasound center with the crazy machine as big as the bed. RJ was super active, however... so I felt his movement all the time. I never saw any fists or feet come through though. Just some shaking sometimes.

As I said, I don't know yet, but I suspect that I do have an anterior due to my no-movement feelings.

So then I started wondering about if the fact that I sleep on my stomach (or did at the time of implantation) impacted the location of the placenta. Check out (and vote) on this poll:

Anyone else? I am so jealous of all the mamas that feel regular movement by now (I'm 19 wks 2 days and think I feel some stuff, but still can't be sure).

Yep I have one (found out at my anatomy scan today) just about 19 wks and felt only a few movements I thought were baby. Our little guy has always been super active during ultrasounds too.

I have an OB appt. shortly and will update if I hear anything different or new from my OB!

I have one as well & wasn't able to feel anything consistently until around 22 weeks. I had nightmares all before my 20 week appointment about something being wrong with the baby since I wasn't really feeling anything consistently & {as this is my first} wasn't even sure if what I was feeling was the baby or not.

I am at 20 weeks with an anterior placenta and I still haven't felt him move at all. I had a check up yesterday and he wouldn't hold still and kept kicking the doppler, so we know he's active. My midwife said sometimes it just takes longer for women in my position.

@mrs D I have heard that it can shift. Kinda like women with placenta previa. Anterior placenta is totally normal and can likely change. I also have felt some movement at 17 weeks but its been less consistent and a lot when im laying down/ on my side.

Did this affect anyones labor? I cant imagine it being different for this.

I was told at my 20 week ultrasound that my placenta was anterior, but it hasn't stopped me from feeling anything as early as I have. I wonder if it's possible for it to move? or maybe it's not front and centre, and that's why I feel her moving so much and so early.

Yes, first felt movement at 15 weeks on rare occasions, and gradually more often from there. When I constantly felt it: in the car. He always goes crazy in the car!

I feel him all the time now, so I really don't feel like I miss out on anything. As they get bigger its easier to find the heartbeat on the doppler too, and less scary for you. One bonus is that my friend without an anterior placenta kept getting woken up by her boy... I on the other hand sleep through pretty much all of his antics.

Hey Ladies!

Just had my 17 week pee in a cup appt and when they broke the doppler our couldn't find the babies heartbeat. Lucky for me, my office has a ultrasound tech/machine in house so they quickly just brought me over there and I saw the little buggers heartbeat. I can't get over how different they look each time I see them! She doctor instantly let me know that an anterior placenta can make it harder to hear the heartbeat when earlier on and also that feeling movement for Mom is different cause there is more padding.

This explains why the "movement" I feel almost feels more like buzzing and gentle grazing than bubbles or other sensations other posterior placenta mamas feel.

Anyone else have an anterior placenta? How long till you REALLY felt regular movement?
