I would take the antibiotic, but I would ALSO take a probiotic and maybe give a probiotic to LO to avoid thrush. Hope you feel better soon!

I had strep when DS was six months old and the antibiotic almost completely dried me up! It was horrible. Everyone is different, I guess. In hindsight I wish I has called my ob!

Sorry you're sick! I took antibiotics for mastitis à few weeks ago and breastfeeding was fine. The only thing I noticed was LO got a bad diaper rash that hung around for ages and turned out to be yeast, which I read can happen. So maybe give K a probiotic like pp suggested.

@autumnlove: @mamimami: @Mrs. High Heels: That's reassuring to hear. Yes, K got it when she was 1-2 months and I was prescribed antibiotics, but I didn't know about that possible side effect.

@Arden: I've already started giving her some tonight!

I was stupid and sent the script to a pharmacy that was closed on Sunday night, so I'll pick up the antibiotic in the morning. Hopefully a couple of meals with probiotics can help ward off thrush and I can try to sneak in a couple of pumping sessions.

I would take the antibiotic (but NOT the Sudafed) and give K a probiotic supplement.

I would probably take the antibiotics. I took antibiotics and J didn't get thrush, but I can understand your worry about it since K got it before...

Eta: I would avoid the Sudafed. That sucks your Dr. wasn't more understanding or willing to hear you out about the breastfeeding concerns!

Take them! I took antibiotics a couple of times. (I think the same thing as you, or another -cillin) and it was fine. I took cipro once and I did have to stop bfing for a week which sucked.

Went to Urgent Care tonight and found out I have a bit of an ear infection, inflamed sinuses, and probably strep. blech!

The Dr. on call was really blunt and didn't seem to care that I am still BF'ing, saying, "well, she's almost 1 anyway" - not sure if that means she thinks we don't need to BF anymore, or if she means the medicines she prescribed wouldn't affect LO too much?

Prescribed Amoxicillin and told me to take Sudafed. I'm scared to do Sudafed since it will likely dry me up since LO is older and I only seem to make "just enough" for her needs. I asked about the Amoxicillin and the Dr. said she could get Thrush (ugh, again? No thanks!)

What would you do? Has anyone been in a similar situation? I'll probably avoid the Sudafed. But what do you think about the antibiotic? Do you think LO is old enough, I don't have to worry too much about the possibility of thrush? I don't pump anymore b/c 1) LO doesn't take bottles, and 2) I barely get anything when I pump.

Thanks in advance!
