I just finished a course of dexamethazone & didn't notice any problems with LO. We both also eat yogurt every day & I have a probiotic in my daily vitamin, though.

I had a penicillin based antibiotic a week after delivery for a c-section infection, 4 times a day. I already take probiotics and was told it might impact my newborn's tummy and poo. It did make her poo runnier I think, but other than that she was fine and I was off it after a week.

I took antibiotics with DD2 and gave her a probiotic as a precaution but her ped said such a small amount in bm that it shouldn't affect her much.

@Iced Tea: we have powder probiotics from whole foods that I'm giving her now, plus I'm having yogurt every day. Hoping that's enough to avoid any real issues like thrush.

So maybe she's not really affected by the mess at all and it's just everything else.

I took two courses of antibiotics for sinus infections this past winter and I didn't notice any effect on LO. The only way it sort of came back to bite me was when I got screened to donate my freezer stash to an organization that gives milk to preemie/NICU babies, I had to hold back all the milk I pumped during that time. (Since so many of those babies area already on antibiotics plus they're so tiny that you really wouldn't want to put any extra into them).

I'm taking it right now and still breastfeed my 16 month old regularly. It's been a few days and hasn't affected her yet.

I am giving both of us Florastor, which is a probiotic that utilizes a healthy yeast, so it can't be killed by your antibiotic. It is a powder inside a capsule, which you can open and put into food. It can be used from the age of 2 months.

My plan is to follow up with a round of powerful probiotics from Whole Foods after I finish the antibiotics.

I took an antibiotic when she was about 3 months old also, and we got thrush. It was awful. I didn't know about the Florastor then and just took acidophilus. I'm hoping we can avoid thrush this time.

It didn't really affect her much, but I was on a once-a-day pill and nursed her right before I took it.

I finally decided to take amoxicillin for my never ending sinus infection- and they are working, hooray! I know they are safe for breastfeeding, but to expect some weird poop. Only thing is my 6 month old also just started solids so of course poop is already "weird".

She's been extra fussy this week, but there is a lot going on- still teething, starting solids and getting a little backed up from that, and a developmental leap, since she is super close to full crawling. I'm giving her prunes and other P foods mostly, and mixing some probiotics in most days.

So if you went in amoxicillin while breastfeeding, how did it affect your baby? I'm more just curious what effect it could behaving mixed in with everything else- I'm halfway through the course and needed them so no changing that.
