I should add that I had a normal pregnancy and there were zero issues related to my blood work or any other issues, for that matter. LO was born strong and healthy. She's now an active and rambunctious threenager

I normally have slightly elevated ANA. It took some time and a lot of experts to figure this out. Years later, my brother had a back injury and was referred to numerous experts because of his ANA results (slightly elevated, like mine). Turns out, it's normal for us.

@jill_a55: I'm late to this post, but I thought I'd share my experience. I was actually just diagnosed with lupus last week. I had my daughter in December. Apparently, it's not uncommon for all of the hormones in pregnancy to bring out diseases that have otherwise been dormant. That being said, the blood work is just one piece of it. It's more based on a variety of things like the blood work, symptoms, diagnostic imaging, etc. I'm guessing that your ANA is elevated. A lot of people with an elevated ANA are just fine! I wouldn't worry too much. I'd just let them do the monitoring and keep them informed of how you're feeling.

@tiramisu: that sounds about right to what he was saying. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

@sapphire: I know, I didn't ask for nearly enough info. My next appointment I will find out more for sure!

@jill_a55: It might be anti nuclear antibodies. My doctor said I have this which puts me at a higher risk of developing lupus or other autoimmune issues. During pregnancy I was fine and they didn't mention it when I almost needed a blood transfusion after delivery.

My ANA level tested high in a panel of bloodwork (it is not usually included in standard bloodwork) when I was 21. I was sent to a rheumatologist who said it is an indicator of other things such as Lupus, but the presence alone does not equate to any disease. My levels were extremely high and tested as such for several years. Then they became normal and have remained so for many more years. I have no known health issues or concerns. Point is, don't let the numbers or Google freak you out. It can mean absolutely nothing!

@FannyMae: I really have no clue... I will have a lot of questions for him next time I go in though!

@mrschickpea: it almost sounded like that type because he brought up leading to lupus and other diseases. I'm not sure, I was kind of surprised by it all so I didn't ask much. He didn't say anything about thyroid issues though. I'll add it to my list

I have antibodies from my Hashimotos that can lead to having other autoimmune diseases (lupus is one of them). Did he check your thyroid antibodies?

@2littlepumpkins: no idea! He was asking about my family history because it could lead to like lupus and stuff. I think maybe I'm just overthinking it because he did not seemed too worried.

@ChitownRo: I've never had a transfusion, but I read that while googling... ill have to ask him for more information when I'm in next.

I'm guessing this was on your blood typing results. If you have had a transfusion before, your body can become sensitive and sorta identify the blood as foreign. It just means that blood needs extra matching beyond ABO (this is my best guess based on your original post, but of course, just ask your MD for clarification)

At my 13 week appointment today, my doctor went over my lab work and said that I have antibodies in my bloodstream but didn't seem very concerned about it... I was told it could lead to certain types of diseases down the road but the only concern now would be if I required a transfusion after delivery.

I'm just curious if anyone has this issue or has dealt with this before? I started to google but decided I'd be better off if I stayed away from there!
