Thanks for all the encouragement, girls! I'm trying not to overthink things because she's not going to remember her 1st birthday anyway. Like you guys said, I'm just mainly trying to make sure we have enough food/drinks to feed everyone, and hoping that my girl won't get to overstimulated by the crowd.

@nycalimama - the photography was something I didn't want to worry about either so my professional photographer friend will be snapping pics for us!

I wish that I had planned some sort of other activity besides socializing. We only had 3 kids at the party, besides DS1, and over 50 adults. There were times when I just felt like planning some sort of activity, like figuring out how old DS1 was in certain pictures, would have spiced up the party more.

Nonetheless, the party was a huge success, and I was totally happy with the way it all came together!

Good luck, it will be a great celebration!

I'm currently planning my LO's dohl. (it's in March!) Getting a head start so I don't forget anything. I'm sure yours will be wonderful! I can't imagine 50 people in our house though!
Good luck! :)

birthday party planning can be stressful, but try not to overwhelm yourself too much. Like Red said, if the food is good and aplenty your guests will be happy :)

for my DD's first bday I had a family friend who was starting a photog business at the time take photos for me. I knew I'd be too busy entertaining and running around to do it myself and I'm glad I delegated that to someone else (I'm usually the shutterbug). Finally I could enjoy the party and be in the pics too.

Don't forget to ask for help when you need it! It's a lot of work, but I'm sure it will all turn out great!

There were a few things I might have done differently but overall everyone really enjoyed the party we threw for LO. I had DIY'd a ton of details and my husband completely forgot to photograph them, which was a big bummer since I was going to include those in a scrapbook for LO. I'm not Korean though so there weren't any traditions I needed to follow or pressure to out-do anybody else's party.

Do your best and you'll be fine. Like with any event, just make sure the food is good and your guests will be happy :)

I'm busy planning my daughter's first birthday, which is next Saturday! In Korean culture, the 1st birthday party is a pretty big deal and is called the "Dol". As I'm planning this I'm hoping I don't miss anything big. We're trying to keep it simple by trying to have it at home vs a restaurant or renting out a facility (it's too cold in Jan to have it at a park or else that would've been ideal). Over 50 guests have already RSVP'ed YES though! I'm starting to worry because so many people are coming and I'm now scrambling to get last minute things done.

Did you like the party you planned your child? What would you have done differently if you could redo it?
