It is a phase. I rarely ignore since LO seems to need me to communicate/attend to her emotions. But it just depends. One of the hugest tantrums we went through (because of a withheld 2nd cupcake) ended with a fantasy story. After explaining why didn't work this time, I 'gave her' what she wanted through a story about her going to a castle made of pink cupcakes and a chocolate waterfall.'

The fantasy method still works well when she's being unreasonable as the element of imagination/creativity helps to soothe and distract her from the anger.

Wow, that sounds rough! My los tantrums are pretty easy to handle. Usually I try to communicate with her, sometimes just talking helps. Most people say to ignore the bad behavior but I'm guilty of giving her a cuddle and letting her know I'm there for her. And of course if nothing else works I distract her.

The lo I take care of is almost two and we are in an awful tantrum "phase"- he has always been a tantrumer but it has really escalated in the past two months. Every transition is a huge meltdown, any time he doesn't get what he wants is a huge melt down. Today we had to leave the park after an hour and a half to go to the pool (siblings had lessons) and even though the pool is his favorite place on earth and it is a five minute drive he screamed the whole way.

We are at a loss as to what to do, it is stressful and wrangling him physically hurts, I am paying my chiropractor half a days wages weekly...

I have been a nanny for a long time and I am pretty good at the usual tactics, but I could use some fresh inspiration! Thanks!
