Definite improvement. And much better for me with any MOTN wake ups.

At 2.5, your crib days are numbered anyways. Might as well make the change now.

@Meso: this could be an option, but I'm pretty sure DH would not be on board with it, but I might mention it
@lilyofthewest: this gives me hope... I will take any improvement at this point. And snuggling in bed instead of passing out sitting up sounds so much better (and safer!!!) for his night wake ups

You're absolutely right that it makes your life easier even if his sleep doesn't improve though. So much more comfortable snuggling LO back to sleep in a comfortable bed. Even when he doesn't fall back asleep easily, sometimes he settles down enough that I do. :)

Bad to great: no. But abysmal to passable: yes.

My 4-year-old was a brutally terrible sleeper as a baby/toddler. His longest sleep duration was under five hours until he was well over 2. And he was up four or more times per night every single night until well over 2.

Things gradually improved between 2-years-old and 3-years-old such that he went from being up four or more times per night to usually twice or three times to usually once or twice. And then just before turning 3, he slept through the night for the first time.

Maybe it was causative, maybe it was coincidental, but we gave up bedsharing/pretending he might sleep in the crib and got him a big kid bed at 2.5 years.

Now at 4y2mos, he is up once most nights, twice once or twice a week, and sleeps through the night once or twice a week.

another option to consider, our LO used to co-sleep for the same reason as you stated. it was just easier for us to co-sleep and be able to lay down and put LO back to sleep. when my LO was 3, we put her in a toddler bed next to my side of the bed, and after a few weeks, she was sleeping through the next. but it was great that we had our own space but i was still close enough to help her go back to sleep if she woke up and i was still comfortable being able to lay down while doing it.

So we came from co-sleeping but DS used to be a horrible sleeper. He didn't sleep through the night until almost three (and even now it's sporadic). We co-slept from 5 months to 2.5 years and finally had enough of his kicking when he turned two and got a twin mattress for his floor.

He's been in it now for over a year (last five months in an actual bed, not just the mattress) and he sleeps much better. He still needs us to cuddle him to sleep, but it's easy to do in his bed. We all sleep a ton better now.

@KT326: I'm pretty sure my DS is too... but the way I see it is if we move to a big bed then I can at least be comfortable during his wake ups too! Now I fall asleep in the chair and wake up an hour or two later and my legs and bum are asleep and I can barely stand up to transfer him back into the crib and then I'm so wobbly that I wake him back up and it's just a disaster.. so I feel like it can't really get any worse at this point! :silly:

And usually he falls back to sleep pretty quickly...

@Ajsmommy: we tried this with my oldest when he was two... he still slept like crap. But I think he is just a terrible sleeper. Even now at 7 years old he still wakes up once a night for a drink but at least now he goes right back to sleep.

So my DS is 2.5 and he's a terrible nighttime sleeper. He wakes up 1-2 times a night and sometimes ends up in bed with us because I am too tired to sit and rock him (and ultimately end up sleeping sitting up in the glider!) so I just bring him into bed with us.

We have always planned to move him into a queen bed after the crib and I'm wondering if we should just do it now.

That would enable me to change the whole bedtime routine.. no more rocking in the glider and reading books, we could do that in bed and I could snuggle and get him all comfy and then for his night wake ups I could just keep him in his bed and lay with him/sleep in a bed with him instead of sitting in a chair....

IDK... maybe it's a bad idea but at this point I think I'm ready to try something different!!

ETA: and oh, I am just wishfully HOPING that maybe the change will make him STTN....
