But you can ask if you are offered the position. Typically, yes, there isn't much negotiation in govie jobs. You can always negotiate based on your skills and need. if it is a government job usually they have pay scales based on your title so I would suggest trying to google the pay scale based on the name of your union and it takes some digging but you can see what the top salary would be based on your title. I'm interviewing next week with the county office of education over in that area. We know going into this we will be taking pretty big pay cuts bc it's a much more desirable area to live in. However, they are also desperate for speech pathologists so I was wondering if I get offered a job, is it worth asking if the salary is negotiable? I know the pay scale is negotiated with the union so is it something I should ask HR still? I don't want to come off showing bad etiquette but if it's something that may be negotiable then I also don't want to not ask! Thoughts?? </p>
