Availability -- I'm now more than 2 weeks into my maternity leave and we're STILL on the waitlist and haven't heard a peep about when a spot will open up. I'm getting really nervous.

Just the expense! Even with the reasonable price of our daycare, 4 days for one of them, and the second child discount we're still paying almost 3k a month. Ouch. I shouldn't complain though because we love our daycare. Lmw is finally adjusting to the one nap time.. She's been napping for 2 hrs instead of just one for the past couple of weeks so that has really helped.

Not a single gripe at the moment. Next week when I'm paying the full rate for 1.5 days (and again the following week for 2 days) I'll be a little agitated :)

I don't love the food, but I can deal. I do wish they'd actually use bibs, though. They have them, but I can't see how they're actually using them given the amount of crud on my kid. I don't dress LO in "nice" clothes for day care, but damn. Even her everyday onesies are all stained from food at day care.

Finding daycare! We moved so we had to find a new daycare and I could only find LO a spot until March. So I'm still hunting for a long term solution. My only criteria is must be open 7:30-5:30, in our city, with more than one adult. Nobody has openings.

@Anagram: yeah it will take some time for them to know her tired cues. Just cause she naps at home on one schedule doesn't mean she will there. R can't stay up more then 2 hours after waking up at home, but can do 3 hours at day care cause so much more is going on. So that could have been the case yesterday. I am sure the director will follow your instructions. And I hope they do!

The one school he asks for is moving all of his friends up to the preschool room. So they are encouraging us to move him too. I don't want him to hate it since he loves it now.

@Smurfette: they also tried to "explain" the sleep sack draping by saying that LO fell asleep during tummy time on the floor, so they just transferred her to the crib and didn't want to wake her to put the sleep sack on.

I said, 1) I prefer if she's put down for her naps when she is getting tired, not after she falls asleep on the floor (But I realize it will take them a week or so to recognize her tired signs---however she's on a great nap schedule at home, so they should have just put her down at the times I gave them that she usually naps. 2) if she does fall asleep elsewhere, put her in the crib ON HER BACK and just in her clothes then.

I followed up with an email to the director, restating the same thing: I don't care where she falls asleep---I would rather her have no cover while napping then to have a loose cover. I will let her teachers know if I change that policy (when she is older). But until then, NO LOOSE ITEMS.

I didn't use caps and I tried to keep it polite while also conveying how seriously I feel about this. Hopefully they will follow my instructions, or I will be looking for new chilcare in January, which is hard in a town with 6 month waitlists. =(

@Smurfette: oh yeah--the crazy part is, when I toured the day care they told me no loose items were allowed in the crib, so not to bring lovies or stuffed animals or anything from home. I asked about a sleep sack and they said that was fine. So I brought a sleep sack for trial day, and then as it became nap time for the older babies (older being...8-13ish months? there were a lot of cruisers and a couple of beginning walkers in there), almost every child was getting a blanket on top of them.

I asked the teacher right then what was up with the blankets and they said they will use blankets if the parents request it. But I have a friend whose 4 month old goes there (same class as my LO), and they told her to bring a light blanket if she wants, so she did. She isn't concerned about SIDS but I am!!! I'm SUPER concerned about it--which is why I don't do that stuff at home.

So now I'm like.....WTF. seriously.

@Anagram: I can't believe that they let them use blankets. They don't allow them. And regulations state that babies have to be laid on the back, if they flip over, then they flip over. But every baby has a sheet on the their crib that says if they roll over or not.

I just had our "trial day" for the day care that my LO will start at January 2 and it didn't go so well. In the morning, I met with her infant teacher to explain her nap and eating schedule, her sleeping/eating quirks, etc. She specifically asked if I let her sleep on her tummy at home (because she rolls both ways at 5 months) and I said no, she hasn't rolled in her sleep after and will stay on her back 100% after she's asleep. I also said that they should put her on her back, but if she rolls she can stay that way. Every other kid was using a blanket but I also SPECIFICALLY said we do not use blankets and gave a sleep sack.

When I came to pick her up, she was asleep on her belly in the crib, with a paci (that I gave just in case but that we never really use--which I told them), with her sleep sack draped OVER HER like a blanket.

WTF. I already followed up on that situation with the director and they said it won't happen again, but really. OMG. And this is supposed to e a great daycare with tons of great reviews that is costing me almost $1900 a month. JEEZ. =(

I hate day care already.

We're actually doing pretty well right now - although we had a lot of challenges with the amount of breastmilk they wanted for the first few months. My main gripe is that she doesn't nap. She is still a cat napper but I had hoped after three months they'd have figured out a way to get a decent amount of sleep from her regularly.

They don't keep his nose wiped all the time. He's got the near constant "daycare crud" with runny/stuffy nose and I hate picking him up and seeing snot smeared on his face. And his shoes are often on the wrong feet. I know he's the one putting them on wrong after nap, but it would be nice if they noticed!

Food....I don't think it's healthy enough. I LOVE our daycare, I love our daycare provider, I hate what she's eating right now. It's too surgary & not healthy enough in my opinion. And I don't know how to bring it up to her...or how no other parent has...sigh.

Not really right now (which is probably the first time ever).

They are really working with her to help with potty training. She's doing great with her letters and her vocabulary. Overall we really like the class. I"m glad she will be in there for an entire year.

I think everything is going well but I don't think they change my toddler LO's diaper enough in afternoon. I mentioned it yesterday and the teachers said they will keep an eye on BM diapers after snack time.
