@plantains: i think the combi is smaller than other convertible car seats, but it is the lightest and has the slimmest profile i believe. i looked into a couple of the more popular brands, but they were just too heavy.

good luck and hope it works out for you! :)

Actually, now that I have goven it some more thought, given that I will need to take taxis quite a bit and go to the UK quite a bit, I think Combi is probably the only way to go realistically.

@Mrs. Bee: Hmm, this is a real issue that we have to consider. Right now, zipcar garage is actually in our building so it doesn't matter. We rent cars to go to the ILs in CT but you are right, weight is a real issue. Especially with taking taxis etc.

I don't know if we are staying in teh city for number 2 or not, I'm just concerned because my nephew is 3 and he looks about 6 so I worry that the Combi might not work. I'll have to go to a BBB and check it out in person. It would definitely be the best option for when we go on trips to England etc.

@plantains: if you don't have a car, weight really is a factor. we've had to carry the car seat home 4 blocks from the closest zipcar garage with charlie in tow. we probably drive 5-6 times a year in NY. for me weight was really one of the biggest factors since i knew we'd have to zipcar.

once olive outgrows her infant seat, we might get another combi just so we have two of the same and don't have to worry about 2 different types of installs. what about having a second kid in the city?

@Mrs. Bee: Yes, I'm trying to eat my cake and have it basically. I want to rear face as long as possible. But we live in NYC and don't have a car, so I don't want to have to buy an infant seat and then another seat later so I'm just looking to get a convertible off the bat as I really don't have storage (or $$$) for mulitple carseats.

@plantains: it looks like 40 pounds is the max weight limit, but the maxi cosi is probably higher. do you want to rear face as long as possible?

@Mrs. Bee: I am stuck between Combi Coccorro and Maxi Cosi, but I'm concerned that the Combi might be too small, DH and I were pretty big babies. How long can a kid rear face in Combi?

We only have 1 car seat and just use my car all the time. We have taken it out and reinstalled it once (taken out to clean the car so we didn't have to readjust it or anything). I asked DH if it was a PITA and he said no it just clipped in to the latch like the infant seat.

The other night DH was supposed to pick DS up from my parents while I was away, so I just left my car and took one of theirs. DH was going to leave his car for me and take mine home, but he ended up staying there until I came back. I know that sounds like more of a PITA than switching seats, but I'd rather juggle cars than risk the seat not being installed correctly.

If it's just once a month, then it probably doesn't make sense to buy two seats, I'd be fine moving the Britax Blvd between cars as long as both have LATCH and I could practice the install and get it checked by a technician.

@LivsMama: Thanks! I missed that post.

I'm still not sure because ours wouldn't be a daily move to different cars, it'd be like once a month when we go to visit relatives and take a bigger car.

I would say you really probably want to just buy two cheap seats. The risk is that having to install/uninstall all the time means you will probably not get a great install 100% of the time. Its not the car seats that fail its the installation.

Buy two less expensive seats, like 2 Britax Roundabouts or Graco MyRides. Much less of a PITA than worrying about the install every time.

and the general concensus was no - buy two. Unfortunately =o)

We have the Combi Coccoro. We only zipcar once in awhile, so we always have to carry the car seat. It's easy to install, and it's one of the lightest car seats on the market.

We don't drive that much at all - like a couple times a week maybe, but we have two cars. So I only want to buy one car seat but most of the convertible car seats seem like a bit of a pain to transfer from one car to another.
Anyone have a carseat that's a bit easier to transfer?
