@QBbride: I have a chronic disease that I get regular blood tests to monitor, so it's not that it would increase my wbc (i.e. i haven't been "sick")

My dr. called me last night and said she wasn't concerned but that we'll do another draw later this week to see if it's still elevated. A bit of a mixed message, but we'll see. I have an appt. with her tomorrow so we'll be able to speak face to face about it. Thanks all!

Oh no! Hope you get some answers soon!! I, too, would be worried about an infection. For example, a UTI can be symptomless but would increase your WBC. You said you were seeing th doctor for something unrelated to your pregnancy, so if you’ve been sick in other ways, your WBCs could be up because of that?!

@2littlepumpkins: I agree - I have no symptoms, but I had none with my other pregnancy as well. This could 100% be no big deal, but I just don't know! I just want to be sure that any potential infection is addressed so that I don't end up with another preemie if I can avoid it!

@Sams Mom: Not yet - It's been a crazy back and forth trying to confirm that the first office even sent the labs to my OB! But I did just get confirmation that my OB's office received the labs so I do hope the Dr. calls me back tonight (although I know her office is now technically closed). Thanks for checking back in!

I'm no doctor, but I think it would mean different things depending what's wrong with you. My dh was in the 15-16s in the hospital with BAD pneumonia. When I was 8 weeks pregnant I had a GI infection that made my WBC >22 (and I needed much less intense care than my dh although I was also admitted to the hospital.) At the time I didn't know it was that bad. I think normal is like 12 if I remember right. Have you had a cold or anything? Any other symptoms?

@math.nerd: FWIW I went back and looked at my blood results from my pregnancy.

@ 26 weeks 15.7 Thous/mm3 (high)
@ 37 weeks 11.6 Thous/mm3 (high)
@ 39 weeks 12.6 Thous/mm3 (high)

Normal range is considered 4.8 Thous/mm3-10.8 Thous/mm3 according to the readout attached to my results.

I did have complications in my pregnancy, but none of them were related to my WBC as far as I know. I had a scheduled c-section @ 39 w 3 d, and he is perfectly fine.

I'd much rather get this information from my doctor, but I'm getting the run-around.

I had a blood test done by one of my doctors for something unrelated to my pregnancy. They called to say everything was good, except that my white blood cell count was elevated - 13.3 was the number they gave me.

I'm concerned about this because with my first pregnancy my water broke at 28 weeks - nobody knows why it happened, but the most likely reason is some undiagnosed infection.

So, here I am with elevated white blood cell counts at 24 weeks pregnant, trying to get my OB to call me back and talk to me about it. Her office says she won't talk to me about it until she gets a copy of the lab results and the other doctor's office promised they would fax them over 4 hours ago - however, my OBs office has yet to receive them.

Does anyone know what a WBC of 13.3 even MEANS? How elevated is it? Could it be a natural 2nd trimester elevation? Or is it likely indicative of an infection?

I know that none of you can give me actual doctorly advice - this is just a message board after all - but I figured it can't hurt to ask while I wait. Thanks all.
