I had tubes in my ears twice as a kid. They helped with the ear aches at the time, but the infections would eventually come back. I think it was just something I had to grown out of.

@Mamasig: I didn't actually see them come out, but she went to the doctor 2 months in a row - one month they were there and the next they were gone.

I did hear about the smell they might have - that kind of concerns me, but I guess it's normal...

My son still has his 1st set of tubes. But he did get his adenoids out with that surgery. No problems and he breathes so much quieter now. He used to be really nasally. They told us that we may notice a smell from him mouth because if the scabbing from the adenoid removal.

Did you notice that the tubes fell out?

@BabyBoecksMom: That is what everyone is telling me. I just don't like the thought of putting her to sleep. But I know it is the best thing.

@Smurfette: thanks. I will say, I waited to get W's first set of tubes because I was so scared about it, but it's the easiest and fastest procedure you can get for them. It's definitely unnerving to have someone else take your baby from you, but it's literally 15 min from the time they take them back to the time they call you to come get them. She was back to herself later that day, once the anesthesia wore off. Good luck!

No advice but my co-worker and a friend both said that adenoids getting out for both their girls was the best thing they ever did. They are the only people I know that have had it.

R is getting tubes in a week and I am super nervous about it.

We just found out that DD1 has to have tubes put in again. She had them put in last May after having constant ear infections from 4-14 months old and it was night and day difference for us. Usually they only stay in about 6 months, but hers stayed in for over a year. As soon as they fell out, the ear infections started again. This time, they said that they might take out the adenoids as well, and for some reason that scares me (because of the recovery time maybe?). I'm also worried about having her go under again...

For those that had tubes more than once - was it harder the 2nd time?
