Texas doesn't specialize in any one thing I don't think, but we serve super duper large portions of everything.

Braum's originated in OK I believe, and while it's a chain restuarant, the fact that it started in lil OK is pretty awesome. Plus, their ice cream is soooo good!

@HeatherlovesKenny: Mmm, Dick's! I prefer Red Mill Burger, but Dick's is an icon.

In Utah, I think of green jello with carrots and funeral potatoes as staples here (but it's not eating out food, it's potluck food). Cake bites are a big thing here as is BBQ chicken pizza and BBQ pork burritos.

@JustlikeHeaven: haha, i wish, we'd all be so skinny! we just don't have any famous foods from my city, i suppose i could say things from boston, but that's an hour away, so i feel like it's cheating to say i'm from there! my city is famous for the invention of the birth control pill & the yellow smiley face, so i went with those, 'cause i'm kinda proud of those ones =)

I'm in AZ, and we just have really good Mexican food in general. I don't think I could live anywhere outside of the southwest, I'd miss my real Mexican food if I did. FI has traveled a lot (he used to drive cross country for work) and I've heard that not everywhere has good Mexican. And his Aunt came out here from Indiana and thought that our salsa and nacho cheese was too spicy. That scares me. LOL I need spice in my life!

Of course, I'd give anything to have fresh seafood too! Too bad we don't have that here :(

I used to live in San Diego so those pictures of the carne asada have me drooling and sad. It is so hard to find good Baja Mexican food!!

Now I live in Philadelphia and we are known for our cheesesteaks, roast pork sandwiches and pretzels.

I think I'd trade a cheesesteak for a carne asada burrito any day of the week!!

@HabesBabe: This place has crazy portions, for the cheese you get bread, veggies and apple dippers, and then for the 2nd course you get a salad (I had strawberry almond) and then the main course is a platter of meats you cook almost in a broth (steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, raviolli and tons of veggies) and then desert is any chocolate you can think of plus tons of dippers (fruit, cheese cake, brownies, marshmallows) You get SOOO full...its called The Melting Pot! yumm

I'm originally from St. Louis, so BBQ!!! Mm-mm, nothing like good St. Louis BBQ, mostly ribs and pork steaks. I hate pork and even I love pork steak.

Also, gooey butter cake was invented here, as was toasted ravioli. We also do our pizza thin crust with Provel cheese. And one of the lesser-known things... the slinger. It's a diner dish that consists of eggs, hashbrowns, and a hamburger with chilli, cheese and onions on top. There's nothing better for a hangover than a slinger. lol

We're also known for our beer. Both Budweiser and a lot of local craft brews.

I don't think Atlanta is known for any particular food. But man, there are some good restaurants. I cringe every time I hear someone visited and went to the Cheesecake Factory. Nothing against it, but SO many other good restaurants that are hands down better then any chain.
