@littlegbee: I love it! We are definitely two peas! And, you know, I've actually snacked on one of those at a friend's house (who has a toddler) and they are GOOD. Great idea! Oh, and Mariposa? To.Die.For. Especially the chocolate cream-filled cupcakes! Except maybe I should not count on that as my go-to anti-morning sickness remedy :)

@MamaMagpie: You and me lady, it's like we're two peas in a pod. I'm GF by choice (have been since way late in the 3rd tri with my now 13 month old) and I feel WAY less lethargic and so much less bloated.

For morning sickness (aka all day sickness) for my first pregnancy, I actually ate one of those baby squeeze fruit puree packets (mango and pear) before I even got out of bed. It helped to get something in me right away before I even faced the day. I wasn't exactly the poster-child for great weight gain for that pregnancy, but I fully intend to continue eating GF and eliminating as many grains (just down to corn now), as I can from my diet during this pregnancy.

If you're really looking for cracker-like things though, I think lentil chips are pretty darn delish. And yes, GF crackers taste like BLAH.

Since you're local, have you checked out Mariposa bakery yet?!

Hard boiled eggs (protein works better for me than carbs) and apples (I think 'cause they are kinda sour). ....not at the same time.

Agree with @WALLAROO - nut thin crackers are delicious.

I've also been eating a lot of string cheese.

@MamaMagpie: Yeah protein definitely helps, forgot to say that. For about a week all I could eat for lunch was a meatball sub, but you could always have meatballs with brown rice pasta, if you like that.
And as for the weight gain, obviously it varies, but I have now lost 4 pounds from when I was at the peak of my bloating, 2 weeks ago. Def not trying to lose weight. It's crazy.

Thanks bees! I think I will definitely try those Blue Diamnond nut thins, @wallaroo!

And that's good to know, @foodnerd81...maybe I will be less paranoid about weight gain :)

I'm not celiac but definitely do have a sensitivity and get really awful stomach pains and feel generally lethargic when I eat gluten, but you're right about doing whatever it takes to feel better.

Also nice to hear that protein really can help, too!

Also, depending on your reasoning for being GF and low carb-- if it is for weight control, I hate to say it but if morning sickness hits, you will be eating anything to make yourself feel better. I did and was worried about how much weight I would gain in the 1st trimester, but now that I'm not so bloated with water weight, turns out I've gained like 3 pounds.

You can still have potatoes, right? Bland carbs really helped especially early on, but potatoes worked just as well as crackers, they just aren't as convenient. I had a bowl of mashed potatoes for dinner last night- healthy, not so much, but it's all I could stomach and seemed more wholesome than crackers.

Cold fresh fruit really helped my nausea. Ice water too. The cold really seemed to help. Also try to snack throughout the day, being hungry can make you more nauseous.

Rice crackers are awesome. I like the plain old sea salt ones, but you can also buy a whole variety of flavours.

Popcorn might be good, or some gf oatmeal cookies.
That being said - are you gluten free as a choice or because of celiac/an allergy? If it is a choice, you may find that only good old Saltines or something like that do the trick.

For me, I've been mostly carb free for the last year or so, but the ONLY thing that really settles my stomach is carbs. Toast, crackers, and popsicles are my friends.

DH and I are gluten free, and I eat relatively few carbs throughout the day. The carbs I do eat are mainly from fruits and veggies, and I'm already concerned with what to do when morning sickness hits. I'm only 4-ish weeks along and I swear I've felt some little bouts of nausea already :-/

I keep reading that crackers and dry bread really help, but that's not really an option for me unless I can find some GF ones (which I usually really dislike the taste of).

Any recommendations or GF crackers that don't taste like cardboard?!
