I was homeschooled until I went to college! It definitely had it's ups and downs. I wouldn't say my mom followed any one way to homeschool though- I don't even know what unschooled means. Since she had six kids, she had to tailor things a lot to each of us individually. It was also a more independent effort than anything- my mom came from a broken family and never went to college (I think she completed one year), so we basically taught ourselves past elementary grades.

It will always have a special place in my heart and I admire people who do it because I don't know if I could!!

I was unschooled and plan on doing something similar with my future children. I want to be able to find what works best for our family and be open to that looking different than my childhood (which I feel so lucky to have had). I plan on taking it slowly and finding what I need as my children grow.

I was a Latin tutor for a group of homeschooled kids in college. It was really fun. Without a class goofing off we got through the grammar quickly and we're able to read throngs like the Aeneid much much younger. The parents' approach was to "just memorize things that need to be memorized" which is great for learning Non-conversational languages.

I'm interested in it, but my husband is not on board. I like what I've read about the Classical conversations method and I like that homeschool groups who teach it get together and still have classes. It seems like the best of both worlds. There's a co-op in town that does three days of classes in a classroom setting and two days of homeschool, so I am looking at that.

@Skadi: you should check or the Catholic All Year blog, the writer has seven children and is homeschooling them. The blog is heavy on religion but Kendra has written some good posts on how and why she homeschools

We will be homeschooling when we get to that point. We'll create our own method incorporating some Montessori concepts.
We will enroll her in group music classes if possible, and potentially hire a language tutor as well.

Do any of you homeschool or plan to homeschool? Are you into unschooling, classical education, Montessori...? What are you most excited about teaching, if you haven't started yet? If you're currently homeschooling, what's your favorite subject or curriculum?

Our LO is only six months old, so this is definitely jumping the gun, but then we've known we would homeschool long before she was born. DH was homeschooled, I was not (but wish I had been!). From the conversations we've had, I know we're going to have a few problems with my in-laws. You'd think that since they homeschooled DH, we'd be chummy about the whole thing. But they were unschoolers, and that is so not me. I'm really in love with classical education (aka the Trivium), which basically makes me an unschooler's worst nightmare. :silly:
