@Mamaof2: That's great that your DH was able to do it himself!

Mine wanted to, but I vetoed him ;). He has no one to help him, so it would be the two of us digging a lot of post holes, in summer, while somehow watching a one year old at the same time. no thank you! I figured it was about $800 in labor. Left for work yesterday and there was nothing, came home and we had a whole fence set up for the three dogs to run around like lunatics in ;).

I'm not in FL, but we just had a split rail with coated wire installed to keep the dogs off the road at our new house, and it cost just over $2,000. That was for 142' of fence, plus two gates (gates ran $225 for the 4' and $200 for the 3'). I found a local company that had good reviews.

The PVC fence you were talking about (white fences) was an extra $1,600 (so, $3,600 instead of $2,000). PVC is more expensive than wood :(.

Also check with the town, you may have to get a fence permit to put one up -- that cost us $100 on top of the fence installation. I got to draw my lot and the house's placement on it, plus the new fence...fun fun!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: We have a chain link fence in our backyard and it does the trick for our 2 dogs, and it was much less expensive than a privacy fence. Although we have a teeny tiny lot!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: look at black chain link fences, they actually look pretty nice in person.. they don't stick out so much.

At Lowes you can get this type of fence, it's about waist high..they're cute! And muuuuch more reasonable. One strip we want to fence in our yard was $760 on the privacy fence and just under $200 if we did that little one ourselves.

@MrsTiz: Just something so that the dogs are fenced in. They are inside dogs, and only go out to use the bathroom, and have a sniff around. Our girl likes to chase lizards and stuff. The boy just likes to sit out in the sun sometimes.

I don't know if they have a HOA, so not sure if they could do chain link. But maybe that hollow, plasticky material, that looks like a white picket fence?

Side note, does anyone want to buy a house in MacClenny Florida? :silly:

@TheSwissWifeStyle: what kind of fence are you thinking? You could do a chain link fence for roughly $15 a foot, and that can go up to $50-$75 per foot for a privacy fence.

We have a big back yard but the quote for a privacy fence was close to 5k..sooo that ish is expensive!

If you are doing a full yard, its at a minimum in the $1-$2k range. We were just going to add a partial section to ours (chain link with one small walk through gate, lowest height) and it was going to be like $800. A full wood privacy fence is much more.

Man! My mom said she's going to call the property manager and get more details. Now I feel bad for suggesting it to my mom, because it's WAY more than I expected. Maybe we can offer to give them money towards it, if they really want to do it. Gah. I hate that my parents are stuck with this house :(

I used to live in Jacksonville and had a small picket fence put in one of our yards and it cost $1000 so I imagine a backyard privacy fence would be more in the range of $3000+.
I called a couple of different companies and was able to negotiate based on each of their quotes.
Good luck!

I don't know their yard size, but I think to fence an average sized yard is approx $3,000 - $5,000!
If you pursued it, I would suggest pricing a local contractor and Home Depot to see the better price.

Fencing is expensive. 50ft of a chain link fence on Home Depot's website is $75. 6 ft of a wooden privacy fence is $60. That doesn't include posts.

I think a fence is going to be thousands. It all depends on what kind of material you choose.

Hiring HD to do it would be the easiest but you will pay a hire fee.

My parents are moving back into their house in the Jacksonville area this November. They've been overseas for years, and rented it out. Well, they house is pretty much trashed, and they need to spend like 10k fixing stuff :( Ugh!

Anyway, they never had a backyard fence, and DH and I were thinking of gifting it to them. It's selfish on my part really, because I want the dogs to have a fence! When they lived there before, the dogs had to be on leads and I hate that! They only lived there for 2 years I think, before they were on to the next post. But they did decide to buy a house, and now because of the market, they are pretty much stuck with it.

Anyway, does anyone know how to go about doing this? And how much would it cost? I'm thinking a few hundred, but maybe I'm way low-balling it?? I would want to hire someone to put it up before they move in.. Does Home Depot or some place like that do it for you? Any info or advice would be much appreciated!
