I'm still pregnant, but DH and I aren't looking forward to adjusting our schedules. I've always been a night owl, but we also have night jobs at a restaurant and frequently I'm picking up DH at the subway station at 1:00am so it's hard to get to bed before 2:00 or 3:00. I think once I get back to work I'll have to switch over to day shifts so we don't have to pay for daycare, but it will be tough for me.

Yes! I always counted on nights to get stuff done, but now putting the kid to bed makes me sleepy and I get nothing done.

@hilsy85: I read an article on adjusting my circadian rhythm... was slowly able to break my lifelong night owl ways! Didn't learn to embrace the mornings until last year though.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I think my kids also got my night owl genes, argh!!

Yes, my husband is a very serious night person. Thankfully, our daughter is too. She'd happily stay up until 11 every night or later. He luckily also has the ability to function on not a lot of sleep, so he can stay up late and get up for work and be ok. He really struggled in the first year or so when we were all sleeping terribly and he couldn't get the sleep he needed while also staying up late. He didn't feel like himself.

I love being up late. I just feel free, late at night, less pressure. Anyhow, LO is up anytime from 4 am to 6 if I am lucky - no matter when she goes to bed. I stay up late on a weekend every once in awhile because I know dh will be there in the morning but definitely not during the week! He works at 6am out of town so I am on my own! :) mmm coffee.

@hilsy85: This sounds like us. DH has always been a night owl. It's tough when you're the parent whose up early with LO and soon to be another one while he sleeps and catches up. I'm hoping that it changes with two kids, but doubt it.

I'm the opposite. I struggle with the late night shit because I'm an early to bed, early to rise kind of gal.

Oh yes......

I rarely go to bed before 1. I also have horrible insomnia. I think I've kind of taught myself to go to bed late because I hate the tossing and turning trying to fall asleep, which still happens any way. I also work from home and do all of my work after the girls go to bed. I am always so tired. I live on coffee!

ETA! I haven't been able to get my 1 year old down until 11 lately, so that keeps me up too. Maybe she got my night owl genes?

Not me, but my DH seriously struggles with this. He doesn't fall asleep til 1 or 2 am and then sleeps til 9am--totally not a kid friendly schedule. He's been off work for a few months but is starting again in Feb which will hopefully get him back in a good schedule. How did you readjust your sleep habits?

I am a night owl but I am doing ok on most days. I get tired in the mid afternoon on the weekends with the kids. I usually just watch TV, surf the internet, read, shop or do chores after my kids go to sleep.

DH and I struggle with this-- we both sleep late (11/12) and depending on the day are up anywhere from 6-8. It's not so bad on the 8am days and thankfully is a good sleeper, but it's a struggle the nights that we don't get a solid 7/8 hours of sleep.

We always say that we'll go to bed early, but then get a second wind that keeps us up until our usual late bedtime!

I'm a huge night owl, and love to work on projects at night when there are no distractions. Staying up late is so much harder to pull off since becoming a parent! I finally gave up and switched over to becoming a morning person last year. I'll still stay up late a few times a week, but now I wake up early every day and try to get stuff done in the early morning. I miss being a night owl!

Any suffering night owl/parents out there?
