I'm a nurse and I think a card goes a long way!! It's always nice to know family appreciates what we do and notices when we go above and beyond. If you want to do a gift, a small hand lotion or sbux card would be great but not necessary.

I'm not a nurse, but I was a neuro ICU patient for a while and there was a period that I went bonkers (I don't remember it - I was really bonkers) and apparently I behaved quite badly. They had pretty strict protocols on what you could and couldn't send in (no flowers whatsoever, no glass, etc), and I always overheard the nurses complaining about how they were getting chubby from eating all the junk food or delicious treats that were around the nurse station so when I got home I sent them the largest fruit basket I could find with a card thanking all of them and telling them I was so sorry for being a jerk!

Food! It was always so appreciated when a patient or family member would bring in food. Baked goods, pizza, Edible Arrangement, it didn't matter 😊

My husband is always so touched whenever a patient thanks him - it doesn't matter what it is. Card, note, gift card - he's always so happy when a patient shows appreciation. I'm sure anything, whether small or big, would be hugely appreciated! :) (I love the idea of a note the supervisor though! I'm sure the bosses would also love to hear positive feedback)

Every time I have gotten a gift I appreciate it, no matter what it is. Even just a hand written card. I usually save them for a long time. Someone gave me this weird fountain (like battery operated indoor zen type) and it was ugly and I still loved it and saved it for years! It's totally the thought that counts. To know someone notices that you care and appreciated it.

Not a nurse, but a (former) hospital employee--A great letter of appreciation/recognition to her supervisor would go a long ways!

My mom is ill and has been in the NSCU for the past two days. Most of the staff has been fairly nice and open to questions which hasn't been my previous experience with hospital staff. There is one nurse in particular who works the overnight shift. She isn't overly talkative or friendly but I can see that she goes above and beyond. I really appreciate her actions and want to give her a small gift. Starbucks card perhaps? I didn't want to ask her directly cause she would prob just say it's okay. FYI, she is young-ish (mid 20s, early 30s max).
