Mine is ok with cloth or lightweight ones but not the heavy ones with the scoop. She hates those but those are the only ones that really work for her when she's eating! We actually just bought a really expensive bib that is kind of a hybrid of the light ones and the scoop ones. She seems ok with it so far (whew).

@deerylou: this might sounds wacko but I put her in a "jammie"/ footed sleeper - it is like a full-bodied bib. She literally gets covered and if I don't do this I have to bathe her 3 times a day!

We stopped using a bib around 12 months or so? I just tried not to do a messy lunch (or had an outfit change ready) and stripped him down to eat dinner. Breakfast he always eats in his PJs, which then go straight into the wash.

@Pepper: lol yes! We save pants for after meals :)

We rarely use a bib these days. Most of his food ends up on his lap, so he eats without pants 90% of the time.

We used bibs during the puree days but were done with them by 8 months, she was never a drooly baby and she doesn't make too much of a mess usually.

We do use bibs and LO tolerates them 90% of the time. However, he still manages to get food all over his clothes, even under the bib AND then I have to do extra laundry to wash all the bibs ... so yeah! ;)

I prefer her to be naked. She is fine with bibs, but inevitably gets food everywhere and I have enough stains to treat as it is. So our bibs don't get a whole lot of use.

We totally gave up on bibs by 10-11 months. She's a little messy since she feeds herself. We just dress her in t-shirts or play clothes for meals. Much less stressful once we stopped trying to force her to keep one on.

G hates bibs as well (like yours, she was never a drooler/spit up-er, so we didn't put them on her much), so we've given up and she just eats nekkid.

My son refused to wear a bib from 10 months onward. He doesn't eat super messy foods (soup, pasta - he just doesn't like them). Otherwise, we just deal with the mess although he's not terribly messy. Food has always been a bit of a struggle for us so I wasn't going to force him to wear a bib if it meant he was going to eat something!

Our daughter is 10.5 months, exclusively on table foods, and will have absolutely nothing to do with a bib. Unlike some of her baby friends, she wasn't a heavy drooler as a young infant, so she hasn't grown up wearing a bib, as a daily accessory.

When we first started solids, she was mostly eating purees, and tolerated a bib, to an extent. However, as she's gotten older, she desperately yanks at it, and cries until it's removed. She's such an enthusiastic, happy eater, and I'd hate to turn mealtime into an aversive activity, so I usually allow her to eat, without. I've started shaping it a little, having her wear one for a short period of time while eating super reinforcing food, but ehh...

We've tried several kinds of bibs - the heavy ones with the scoop at the bottom, muslin, terrycloth, cotton; she'll have none of them. She's fine wearing clothing with tags, hair accessories, you name it. It's just bibs.

Anyone else have this issue? Did you keep trying, or just accept the extra mess?
