It's definitely tough.</p> <p>I completely agree that a shutdown should mean the ENTIRE gov't - including Congress's salaries and benefits. They'd be a lot more motivated to pass the budget if they had anything on the line. I also think they shouldn't get any vacation / leave until they pass a budget each year. Last shutdown I still worked because my position isn't funded by the budget appropriations but I'm on maternity leave this time (well, sick leave/PTO given no actual maternity leave) so it's a little weird to be on the outside this time. I actually feel a little bad because like @dcyogabee not everyone in my office is funded the same way which means they will be down another person able to work if there is indeed a shutdown. Some employees aren't paid through appropriated funds (me), and some are so it gets awkward. Also, it leaves us with 20 attorneys in my group to do the work of 60+, so it gets real crazy real fast. But we had an email a few days ago about the possibility of a shutdown. No surprise if you're an NPR junkie like me, they've been talking about it for weeks...it's super frustrating though. Last time, most of us in my office were brought back after a week but had to work without pay until the shutdown was over, no idea what will happen this time.
