&#60;p&#62;@swurlygurl:  It was revolutionary for me and I'll explain.  So, when I decide to lose weight, I go overboard... every time.  (Hx of disordered eating).  MFP warns you when your calorie intake is too low.  I blew it off and was like, &#34;Yeah, yeah, less is better...&#34;  but then I decided to stay in my range for a few days and not restrict so much.  What do you know?  Another half pound off.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It's been really instrumental in my tracking of calories in and calories out... and makes me mentally check every single thing I put in my mouth!&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;@Espion:  i just read the reply you were referring to and it makes total sense.  although i set my calorie goal using the 500 rule, i do it as a guide and definitely try to listen to my body. If i am starving for example but already reached my calorie limit, i am not going to say &#34;you fail for going over the calorie limit&#34;. Alternatively, if i have calories left over to &#34;eat&#34; yet i am full and feel I ate quite a bit, i am not going to eat just because mfp says i can.......where i find mfp useful is that it shows me where i can cut down (how many creams do i need in my coffee? how many tablespoons of cream cheese are really necessary?  maybe i shouldn't be eating a bag of peanut m&#38;amp;ms every week!) and then i start to make better choices.  it also motivates me to exercise.  the weeks where i don't lose weight are definitely correlated with being way over my calorie limit every day and as a result of a high calorie, un-necessary foods.

&#60;p&#62;ETA: oh and i am nursing and i used to add breastfeeding as exercise calories but because i burned more calories that way than any other method, it was always showing up as my only source of exercise in the newsfeed and it looked weird!  like say i put 500 cals from nursing, then 200 cals from a cardio workout, it would say &#34;purpleunicorn burned 700 cals doing X amount of cardio including breastfeeding&#34;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;so once i figured that out, i just changed my daily calorie goal to account for nursing.  for example, if i want to lose a pound a week, i just set it to &#34;maintain&#34; my weight since when you set it to a pound a week, it subtracts 500 cals a day and then i get to add 500 for nursing.   HOWEVER, that was not effective for me personally as i was still hungry and always went over my limit and I felt discouraged, so i decided to set it to lose half a pound a week, which would mean a deficit of 250 cals per day, so i have it set to gain half a pound a week to account for the nursing, make sense?   in the second week i did it that way, i lost 2.1 pounds! the week after i lost 0.2 (better than gaining in my opinion!) and this week i feel i am doing good too, i'll see how much i weigh on monday, fingers crossed.
