I had mine done at 28 weeks (now 37) and it didn't hurt at all! I jumped when she first stuck me but it really was not nearly as bad as the TDap, to be honest. I wasn't even sore after or later on.

The nurse did my upper right butt cheek, though, near my hip - so that might have come into play.

I don't know why but I only got the shot after having my first kid, and post-partum I don't even remember what it felt like LOL. This time around after a false positive scare on the Coombs test, I still will not get it until after I deliver the baby IF he/she is positive. I guess my doctor does things differently.... Anyway, a nurse told me once we all have one side that hurts less than the other. Try and remember which one it is for future reference!

It isn't too bad. I actually didn't need it because both DH and I are -, but MD wanted to be on the safe side. I thought the pertussis vaccine I just got was worse in the arm.

AB- here, I've had Rhogam a few times (~28wks during my first pregnancy and after my MC @ 8.5wks) and never found it to be all that bad, definitely less painful than a tetanus shot. ;)

I am A- and I had some spotting early on so I first got the shot around 8 weeks. I'll get another one at 28wks and then once the baby is born. I didn't think the shot hurt and they put it in my upper arm. It was like getting a flu shot. If I remember correctly, I think my arm was a little sore that day, like I overworked/exercised the muscle.

I'm RH negative. The shot I had after my first MC was not too bad. Mostly I find there is a lot of misinformation out there... people panic when they find out I'm RH negative... awkward.

RH- here too! I don't like shots, but I don't really have a needle-phobia so I think I'll be okay. I'll make sure to schedule that appointment at the end of the day so I can go home in case the injection spot is sore.

Rh- here. I've had the rohgam shot twice when I had two miscarriages. I got it in the arm and it didn't feel any different than any other shot I've had. I think I'll get it at 28 weeks and then again after birth if baby is Rh+.

@heartsnsunshine: I am 0 negative, but as it turned out so was DD, so I didn't have to get it in the hospital after delivery, just once during pregnancy. I will be getting it again this time around. I don't mind shots, but wasn't looking forward to the bum shot! I was so happy when the nurse told me it was going to be in my arm!!

I'm O- and got the shot around 28 weeks. Didn't hurt much more than any other shot, other than my dignity for having to drop trou and bend over the exam table. Of course, I got it right after I had done my three hour glucose test, so I was kind of used to being a pincushion that day anyway!

I'm Rh- and got the shot at 18 weeks because of some bleeding and then after LO was born because he was A+. Usually they just give it to you at 28 weeks and then again after the birth if LO is a positive blood type. They'll also give it to you if you have any kind of trauma to your abdomen while pregnant or if you have a miscarriage. It didn't hurt any more than any other shot I've had. Don't worry too much! Oh and for the first shot they made me stay at the office for 15 minutes after the shot to make sure I didnt have an allergic reaction. Not sure if that is standard, but be prepared to have to stay.

@photojane: I didn't have the shot until I was 28wks. They checked my blood type when they tested to confirm my pregnancy and we discussed that I would need the shot at my first appointment. I'm pretty sure that you would only need the shot early if you have had a miscarriage before.

Not pregnant now, but I'm A- and have had the RhoGam shot. It really wasn't a big deal and I'm a baby when it comes to needles! I didn't even feel it. It was a little sore for a day or two afterwards and that was it. DS ended up being A- as well so I only had to have one shot.
