@CakeLady: My LO was a terrible napper at that age too. Daycare held her when they could and she was in a swing far longer than anyone should be. One 30min nap per day was common. Nap training didn't do anything for her. We tried 5 or 6 times. She finally started napping well around 15/16 months when we weaned and she started walking, no extra training. Now daycare says she's the best napper. Good luck!

@brownie: he is a terrible napper at daycare too. Yesterday he took one 20 minute nap and one 40 minute nap ALL DAY! I try to just be flexible and do an early bedtime when that happens. So maybe the don't worry about it route is the one I should take... But I'm a worrier so that's hard

With DD, we didn't nap train because of daycare. However, when she moved up to the toddler room after she turned 1 year, her napping improved because everyone takes a nap at the same time. Peer pressure!! She then started taking 2 hour naps, even at home, though we did do a little bit of nap training at that point (letting her cry a bit to see if she would put herself to sleep).

My guy was a great napper at daycare and a terrible napper at home (still is 3 years later). So I would say try to do what daycare does or don't worry about it. We went the don't worry about it route.

DS is almost 9 months and a terrible napper. 30-45 minutes is typical. He'll usually do two or three of these tiny naps a day at daycare. On weekends we rock him to sleep, put him in his crib, and when he wakes up 45 min later we rock/hold him for another 45. I'd like to help him take better naps because he is clearly tired on daycare days and I'd like to not have to hold him for naps.

I know that the rocking/holding is part of the problem, but since he's in daycare it is really hard to be consistent since he only naps at home 3 days a week. He falls asleep on his own for bed time, we sleep trained around 6 mos. he's still not sleeping through the night.
