That's so cool! I don't drive, but I want it mostly for my commute which involves a lot of walking. I can totally see how nonfiction would be easier on audible. The Great Santini is supposed to be excellent but so far I'm about 50 pages in and it's just OK...I think it may be the type of book that takes a little while to get into.. I'll report back on it when I get further along! I loved the movie of the help, that sounds like a good one for audible! Everyone keeps telling me to read Gone Girl too...have you read it yet?

I usually listen to one and read one, I am listening to "Where'd You Go Bernadette" and it is good so far, it is told by several narrators and they use different actors for each which I really enjoy-- The Help did that and I loved it! I just finished Happier at Home and I also listened to The Happiness Project, I really enjoyed both. Sometimes I prefer listening to non-fiction because it seems easier to pick up and put down frequently. I went through a few months where I was do a 9 hour drive 4 times a month and quick paced fiction was great for that!

How is The Great Santini? I am always looking for good things to read!

I drive a Ford and being able to seamlessly listen in my car is awesome, if I have the app open in the background it just turns on as soon as I get in and pauses when I get out!

@Cole: ahhh thank you, I think that must be the problem! I'm reading The Great Santini at the moment, and I think even though it's available on kindle and audible, it may not support whisper sync. I'll have to use my free credit to pick a book that does support it so I can test it out! In theory, I love this idea, just have to see if it works in practice! Or I guess I could just pick certain books to read and others to listen to...are you "reading" anything good right now?

@esqbee: Are you sure that the book you already have supports whisper sync? I know that not all do, and you may need to do it on the computer but to be honest my impression - this (ugly) link might help: http://audible.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4146/~/whispersync-for-voice-&-immersion-reading#wsfv16

What are you reading?

@Cole: awesome! So I just tried a free trial, and was able to get a book that is already on my kindle for free on audible, but I can't find any option to sync the two through the audible app! I have Android too, I'm just not finding the app very intuitive... Maybe I have to get used to it? I'm not sure if you'd know the answer to that since you said you dont sync them...

I LOVE Audible, I use it all of the time! The app for my phone (android) is great and my husband uses the iphone one which is also really nice with the small hitch that you can't buy books through it, you have to go into your browser (that is an Apple issue though not an Audible issue.)

We get a credit each month (if you don't use it the credit just sits in your account) and then there is a significant discount for other books, they run different specials through the year.

To link up with your kindle book though you do have to buy the kindle book and the audible version (you can use a credit or purchase by cc.) I haven't done it because I can't justify buying something twice and normally I just borrow kindle books from the library.

If you have any specific questions let me know but all in all I can't say enough good things about audible, I really love it!

I am obsessed with my kindle, and am an avid reader, but there are a lot of activities i can't do while reading, like walking across the street, or going to the gym...i was thinking of getting an Audible account so i can switch between reading and listening on my kindle, but i didn't want to enroll in the monthly membership unless it's really worthwhile! i buy a lot of kindle books, but I don't have to pay a monthly fee for the kindle. I was just wondering if the membership is worth it on Audible.
