I don't know if you belong to a gym but I have found that running on a treadmill in front of a mirror really helped me. I could watch my feet and focus on perfecting my stride and eventually it becomes second nature to run correctly.

I have flat feet so I overpronate too. It causes some issues with my knees and some pain with my hips so I have to really listen to my body and get new shoes frequently.

I am also an over pronator. I went to the Super Runner store and was also video taped...I also have very high arches, so they said that I am at high risk for fallen arches--which doesn't sound very pleasant! They gave me inserts which provide a ton of arch support and my running is much better now, and I don't get gnarly calluses on the inside of my foot under my big toe like I used to!

I have pretty flat feet, and I overpronate. I've purchased many an expensive running shoe after getting evaluated at my local running shop. Finally, I went the whole nine yards and had custom orthotics made, and it was the biggest waste of money ever. If you don't wear the orthotic with every shoe, it doesn't really help much, and you can't wear it with every shoe. Too large, too bulky. I wore and trained in them for a half marathon, and took my shoes off the second I crossed the finish line, never to wear them again.

I've gone in the complete other direction and now run in Nike Free Runs. I'm in a place where I think, "This is how my body runs, it's not causing injury, I'm over trying to fix how my body naturally is." Probably a result of frustration over the amount of money I've spent over the years, but they're working for me.

@MrBee: When I was in school, I worked for a podiatrist. When I mentioned the problems with my feet going numb in places and stress fractures, he immediately went to work (looking at my feet and analyzing my stride). He was a litle upset that I didn't ask him sooner, but I felt guilty about bothering him with my personal issues when he was already so busy with his patients/ surgery.

I got analyzed a while back. They said I was pretty neutral and underpronate slightly. I always wore asics and have a pair of mizunos.

I overpronate as well. However, I haven't had my gait evaluated. I have bought arch supports to help, but according to the wear and tear of my shoes, I still overpronate.

I should probably add that I am a mid- or forefoot striker, and that before I sought a *diagnosis* for my stride, I ended up with stress fractures in both shins. After a lengthy rehab, I resumed running, and the right shoes (and some training exercises) made all the difference in the world.

I have high arches, so I don't overpronate at all . . . it is referred to as supination or under-pronation.

Usually a pair of stability shoes (which is what I imagine they sold to you) fix your gait so you can run without getting injuries. I overpronate a bit too. I've been trying to pay attention to my form, so that I land on my mid foot and have better posture, but making any more changes would really require hiring a running coach. I haven't had any running injuries (knock on wood) so I don't really have the motivation to hire a coach right now. The sneakers do their job.

I always thought I was also an overpronator (my every-day shoes wear out on the inside WAY faster than anywhere else). However when I had my gait evaluated, they said I was pretty flat. So they told me to get Asics, to provide the best support.

I went to a running store this weekend and they videotaped me running on a treadmill... turns out that I am an "overpronator":

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-319-327-7727-0,00.html

In other words, I roll my foot inward more than 15% with each step. Oops. Anyway they sold me some shoes that should hopefully fix that...

Anyone else over or underpronoate when they run or jog? Did you have any luck addressing this with a new shoe? Or did you find a way to adjust the root cause, and change how you run...
