@misolee: He was a wild sleeper for awhile. Once we got a bed frame I had the bed pushed against the wall and a railing on the other side. He was probably 4 when I took the railing off. He falls out of bed occasionally (6 now) but he just climbs back in. We have a body pillow right next to his bed to cushion his fall.

Our almost 3 year old does exactly the same thing. Sleeps on the floor next to her toddler bed. I just leave a pillow and a pile of blankets there and don't worry about it. She'll tell us if she's cold and I figure she has the autonomy to decide where she wants to sleep (as long as it's safe and not bothering anyone).

@misolee: Maybe put a few throw rugs on the floor by his bed and your bed until he grows out of it. At least then you can wash them and reduce the amount of carpet dust he's inhaling.

yes. that's my son to the tee. I think he's checking bc also little sister is sleeping with us as she's still nursing (3.5 months). Recently, I have been finding him sleeping on on the floor by the chair I sit in to feed her. He looks so pitiful on the floor :crying:

If you think he's cold try the halo sleep sack with feet holes. As long as he's safe-areas he shouldn't get to are gated off etc, I wouldn't worry about it. Just let it ride. You can try putting his mattress on the floor without removing the bed, just to see if he likes it. If you don't want to lie down with him to sleep anymore try a book on tape and a monkey door lock.

My son did this for a while. We would initially put him to bed in his bed (which is just a twin mattress on the floor). At some point in the night he would end up on the floor in his room, the hallway, or our room. I think he was trying to check we were still there and would fall asleep. He knew not to wake us up because then he'd go straight back to his bed. Eventually it stopped without us really doing anything.

My son slept on a twin mattress on the floor for a year before we got a bed frame for it. I would always find him half on half off. We have hardwood floors with area rugs so he never really slept all the way on the floor.

Also, regarding being cold, at that age my son started covering himself up when he was cold. So I wouldn't really worry about that part. Who knows, by fall he could be staying in his bed!

We put a twin mattress on the floor with DD1 with a plush rug next to it and I think it's fine! Never saw a need for a real bed till she is older!

Footie jammies and a mattress on the floor is what my best friend had to do with her son that did that. The mattress on the floor usually did the trick, but footie jammies for when he ended up on the floor in his room or their room.

Background first.

LO2 is currently 29 months and slept well in crib for naps and at night until we switched over to a toddler bed at 27 months bc he started climbing out of his crib. He also became a big brother at 25 months so I know there' s been a lot of transition for him.

Well, he now only sleeps on the floor. He refuses to sleep in the toddler bed and I have to lie on the floor with him until he falls asleep. When he falls asleep, I put him gently in the toddler bed without waking him but when I check on him, he's back on the floor. Sometimes, he will also sneak into our bedroom. He doesn't climb into our bed, he just sleeps on the floor at the foot of the bed. One time I almost stepped on him when I awoke to nurse. When I find him on the floor of our bed, I pick him up and move him into our bed but he slides back down to the floor.

Our floor is carpet. We don't wear shoes in the house. I worry he'll be cold...especially when in the fall/winter. He's always had a stuffy nose and problems with congestion and I feel like it's getting worse bc he literally sleeps with his face to the carpet (irrational fear..I know).

Any suggestions on what we can do? Should I just get rid of the toddler bed and put the mattress on the floor? We do have a twin size bed/mattress ready to go but I doubt he'll sleep in that either.
