I would wear shoes with a stiff sole if you own any (think danskos, chacos, etc). The less flexing your feet do, the better. At least from my experience!

@Zbug: @swedishfish: @hilsy85: @BabyBruins: @Mrs.Panda: Thanks ladies! I'm icing and elevating and I took a couple advil, and it's been feeling better in the last hour or so. I also found a few shoes I could wear that seem to work okay, so I'm hoping it will be fine (and hopefully will be on its way to feeling better in 10 days or so, when I'll really need to walk a lot).

Yep tape it to the next toe and take ibuprofen to reduce any swelling that could make the pain worse. Elevation and ice often!

@Beehive: I just broke or really bruised my pinkie toe and taping it to the toe next to it helped. I couldn't wear sneakers for about 10 days and flip flops felt the best. The first few steps after sitting down or stopping I had to limp, but then I could "walk it off". It felt a lot better after about 10 days.

I agree with taping it, and wear supportive shoes like sneakers. The best thing (altho kind of lame looking) would be to get a boot from a medical supply store/pharmacy. Hope it feels better!

I've been taping my bruised or broken toe to another one. It's helped for me. We got waterproof tape that's easily removed. I'm also elevating my foot frequently and icing it a lot. Feel better!

@SleepyMonkey: I think that's a great idea. DH is strangely less enthusiastic about it though... weird.

So my dr friend told me to try taping it the next toe with a cotton ball inbtw. That actually made it hurt worse for me, but it's worth a shot! I'm assuming it depends on how the toe is broken. I just wore flip flops and walked on the side of my foot for four weeks.

@SleepyMonkey: Thanks  I have high hopes for the magical healing powers of "walking it off"... otherwise we'll just be the slowest tourists around!

I very stupidly hit my little toe hard against the wall and may have broken it (x-rays were inconclusive - if it's a fracture it's a tiny one). It's really hard to walk on at the moment, and tomorrow we're leaving for a two-week vacation with lots of walking (especially during the second week). Any tips for how to either make it heal really quickly or make it easy to walk on?
