@Anutka: We have a morning-napping toddler! DS naps at 9:30 and wakes up around noon. He goes to bed at 8pm and wakes up for the day at 7am. Sometimes he'll take an afternoon nap around 3 (especially if we had to wake him from his morning nap before noon), but not always.

We basically are dropping his afternoon nap without shifting the time of his morning nap. He's attending afternoon preschool in the fall, so this works out great for us.

ETA - DS is 22 months old.

DS absolutely still needs a morning nap, he is 20 months. He wakes up around 6:30, goes down for a nap around 9:30/10am and sleeps for 2-3 hours and is either up for the rest of the day or goes back down for a bit later in the afternoon and finally goes to bed at 6:30/7pm. By that time of night he is sooo ready for bed! I think he probably needs more sleep than the average kid though. Plus, he plays with his older cousins during the day at my mom's house, so I know that interaction definitely wears him out.

My 2.5 yo naps anywhere starting from noon-2 until 4/4:30, and still goes to bed between 7:30-8, though it takes him a bit to fall asleep.

I definitely have friends whose toddlers nap in the morning, rather than the afternoon. That might indeed be better for your LO's sleep cycle. It's so tough to figure these things out because kids are so different!

@sorrycharlie: ooh, I like the sound of that! I doubt mine would nap with a 12 hr overnight sleep. But even an 8pm bedtime would be heavenly. I think I'll try this weekend to start moving up her nap.

@Mrs. Bee: that's what I keep hearing, but we can't seem to make it work. She wakes up at 1-2pm from the nap and we get her in bed at 8pm, and she us just not tired. I stay there with her 1-1.5 hrs until she falls asleep. When we tried it earlier, she just runs out of her room and keeps playing.

Yup! My daughter is almost two and has been on the same one nap schedule for almost a year now (late fall). She naps at 1030, and goes to bed around 630. She sleeps til 630-7.

it's counterintuitive, but an earlier bedtime (like 7pm) might help her fall asleep earlier and stay asleep longer. i kept the time awake from last nap to bedtime between 4-5 hours.

also if your lo is in preschool/daycare, there will most likely nap around 1pm, so it might be good to get close to a 1pm nap schedule. even in public pre-k charlie had a 1 hour rest time at 1pm.

More sleep posts, yay!

So if I wanted to slide my kid's bedtime up to 8pm from the current 9-9:30, would an earlier nap help?

She now sleep 9-9:30pm until 7-730am and naps at 12. What if she napped at like 10am? (I'd wake her earlier in the morning). Is that just an outrageous nap time, or are any toddlers out there morning nappers?

Many thanks!
