The hotel tonight app is great! But you have to be willing to wait until pretty close to your stay date (the closer the better)

@Mrsbells: Thank you! I think I'll try the priceline and/or hotwire thing for really specific categories, and if I can't find anything in the closest areas, Ill branch out. Thanks again for your advice!

@mrsbubbletea: I dont have any firsthand knowledge of that specific hotel but the reviews seems promising and it isnt too far from downtown

@Sams Mom: that sounds just like the priceline one. I think the key is to start really low and specific in area and slowly increase one part at a time if you don't get an available deal. I wonder if one is better than the other!

@snowjewelz: Thats what I was going looking into too, but we kind of like hotels especially since we don't plan to cook or anything!

I've used the hot deal on hotwire.com with good luck. You pick how many stars you want and what area you want to be in it gives you the price and you book it, then they tell you what hotel it is. I've never used it in as big of city as Austin though, so I don't know how much of a roulette crap shoot that could be.

@Mrsbells: Thats my issue. I am kind of trying to stay downtown, because the wedding and my friends are staying in the south congress area (I think that's what its called) and I wanted to be close, but I don't necessarily need to be... any suggestions? We aren't renting a car, so we would like to be able to have some cool stuff around us, but we will just take ubers or whatever.

ETA I found a good deal at the doubletree thats further out, any advice about where that is located? https://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels/texas/doubletree-by-hilton-hotel-austin-AUSLNDT/index.html

@mrsbubbletea: austin is pretty big so the prices will vary a lot depending on which area in Austin. Have you tried expanding your search to the outskirts or suburbs around austin

I procrastinated on a hotel for an upcoming wedding in Austin the first weekend of Nov. There is some kind of game so hotels got super expensive. I really wanted to treat us to a nice hotel cause its our first trip without kids! But...we already spent however much on plane tickets, I need a dress, wedding gift... so I can't spend so much on two nights in a hotel. Any tricks? I had done the priceline name your own price thing in the past but I don't know if they even have it anymore or if there is something better.
