I haven't had a garden in a few years, but I may try to plant one quickly once we move in a few weeks. Last time we grew strawberries, carrots, onions, zucchini, basil, roma tomatoes and bell peppers. All were from plant starts.

We did heirloom tomatoes, a hybrid tomato, container tomatoes, zucchini. That's it so far! All were already partly grown. I'm thinking of adding a few more but haven't gotten around to it yet.

We're trying for the first time this summer but will be doing plants for starters. Hoping to plan our square foot garden this weekend!

Cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, Persian cucumbers, melons, peppers, basil, rosemary, cilantro, strawberries, arugula, romaine, and edamame. We started with plants rather than seeds. Our edamame lived an extremely short life, but our other plants are doing great.

@allison: My mom said that often old seeds don't germinate well the next year (unless you mean that you harvested and saved them from the plant), so it's hit and miss.

@Grace: I just saved my seeds from last year. You can do that, right?

...I obviously don't really know what I'm doing. I think I'm going to order a grow light and a germination station with a warming pad from Amazon. Buying plants is way easier, for sure. But the seeds are so much cheaper!

@Bao: thank goodness for the internet! We just Googled a ton last year.

@mrbee: I can't wait for LO to be old enough to help in the garden! Hopefully by then we'll be a little better at it. I think it would be such a fun "chore" to pick the tomatoes or whatever every morning.

@grizz: nice that you have help from your FIL. I bet that'll make things go a lot more smoothly.

I have a garden, but I buy most as plants just to guarentee they'll come up. I'm buying tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini as plants and seeding peas, carrots and maybe corn and potatoes. Oh, and buying herbs plants too. Plus, I could never use a whole pack of seeds in a season, so they would just go to waste.

I have grown tomatoes for the past 2 years but I cheat and buy plants that are a few inches tall already. I don't think it's saved us much money but I love that they are super fresh and I think they taste Better than what I buy in the store!

We planted cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, strawberries, jalapeños, and watermelons. I basically have no idea what I'm doing but FIL grew up in a farming family and is helping us as we go. I'm excited to see if they produce!

We're about to start germinating our vegetable seeds for our small garden. Last year was our first attempt at growing some of our own food, and it went okay. WAY too many zucchini plants! And a lot of our seeds didn't germinate, then some seedlings didn't make during the transplant.

We're planning to plant crookneck squash, zucchini, acorn squash, carrots, sweet peppers, watermelon, cilantro, basil, parsley, eggplant, tomatoes... I think that's it?

I'd love to connect to some fellow gardening bees -- I need all the help I can get! What are you planting?
