We found our AMAZING housekeeper on care.com and she had incredible reviews. I was at home for the first few visits and once we developed a solid relationship we gave her a key and the rest is history. She does whatever we need help with (organization, etc) in addition to cleaning. And having a clean home gives us more time to relax and enjoy time with our little man. Highly recommend!

When I go full time temporarily in January, we will be hiring a cleaning lady to come once every 1-2 weeks to deal with our deep cleaning. My income is increasing by $2K per month by going full time from part time, so the extra $200 per month it will cost is will be well worth it.

I told DH that hiring a cleaning service was a requirement for me to be a WOHM - so we just did and it is amazing! They come every two weeks and it totally frees up my time i would have spent cleaning (some time during the week but lots if weekend time) for me to enjoy my family. DH made a similar demand for a lawn service next year.

It gives us extra time back for DD during the week and gives me some extra weekend time back to prep for the week! I totally recommend it!

I work at home, DH works out of the house ... We plan on hiring a nanny, a housekeeper or a nanny that does housekeeping after our LO arrives ... For the exact reason you mentioned: After work, we just want to hang out with the baby, not spend all of our time cleaning the house!!

We hired a cleaning lady when I was 12 weeks pregnant. Best.decision.ever.

Now that I'm on mat leave I appreciate her even more because I don't have to stress out so much about all the big jobs. She comes every second Friday afternoon...LO and I use that time to run our errands.

I found her through a family member who had her and loved her...she is amazing!

YES!! All of the above! And we don't have any LOs yet either.

I see you're in the Philly area so these options should all be available. We order most of our groceries online. I prefer PeaPod but FreshDirect is another option. FreshDirect is good for organic, natural items and produce. PeaPod has great sales and better prices overall, I think. We send our laundry out. It might not be folded exactly how I'd like it but it's done and that's all that matters! As for cleaning, we always have someone over when we're at work. I usually find someone through someone I know. Our current person was referred by my boss. Otherwise, you might want to hire a service that is insured (Merry Maids, etc.) if, god forbid, anything were to happen or go missing.

I've always wanted a cleaning person, but now, I'm getting really serious about hiring one (aka doing research). I think it'll be a huge sanity saver for me.

We have a cleaning lady come every other week. It is such a relationship and sanity saver.

Also, our daycare provides lunches and snacks and that also makes a HUGE difference in what we are doing on nights/weekends to prepare for the week. Not sure if that is an option for y'all, but its also a game changer.

We hired a cleaning lady, she comes every other week. We were fighting to much over cleaning. It was hard to find time on the weekends to do it. And it was fair for me to do it all along with solo parenting during the week. Adjustments In the budget were made to make it happen. So worth it.

We found her through a coworker. She comes on Fridays so DH is there if working for home. If not she just has a key.

I don't work FT anymore, but when DH and I both did (before kids), we had someone come in 1-2 times a week to deep clean, tidy, do laundry, etc. We found her through a friend who also used her, and she generally came when we weren't home (although I made a point to be home the first few times she worked until trust was established). When we were home, I just tried to be in a different room, and to be "busy" so I didn't feel awkward. For example, I'd send emails in the office instead of watching TV on the couch.

To speak to the strangeness of having someone doing chores in your house while you're there - we now have a live in helper for childcare, cleaning, etc. (very common where I live in Asia), and while it was SO WEIRD at first, I really have to say that whether it's someone who stays with you full time or comes in and out, you WILL get used to having them around if that's the way that the timing works out.

As others have said, we found it to be such a good investment - it's just not worth bickering over dirty laundry or dishes in the sink, and the extra family time is priceless.

Even though I WAH, I work quite a lot and DH WOH. I'm also 31 weeks pregnant. We just hired a cleaning person to come once per week. The thought of having someone clean my house while I'm here is a bit odd...but I think it will be the right decision. I currently feel like I don't have the time or energy to devote to housekeeping.

We also have someone come every other week. We found her through a friend. We tried a cleaning service originally, but they were pretty crappy. Having her come is awesome for our marriage. It's also wonderful to come home from work every other Tuesday - the house looks and feels so great!

I'm still on mat leave but love having someone come in to help out. If you can afford it I would definitely do it. Weekends are so short, they should be spent with the family not spent scrubbing floors.
We found our maid by asking around and interviewing the few names that came up. She's been with us for a year now and it's honestly made our marriage better because we don't bicker about who has done what.

DH and I work full time. We have a maid come every other week. We got her through a friend that had her for years and "tested" her to see if she's trustworthy. We have a keypad and she lets herself in through our garage. It's been a heaven send!

I WAH full time for about 6 months but just recently have gone back to WOH full time and we're hiring help with the household. it just comes down to time - if you both WOH there is just so much less time in which to do stuff around the house. We'll be hiring someone to come in a few times a week to clean/tidy, do laundry, put away dishes, etc.

We also have someone for the yard work (that we've had for a long time), because neither of us are want to have to give up hours every weekend mowing the lawn.

We found our lawn guy through the recommendation of some of our neighbors who use him, too and are looking for the right house service by starting with companies I can find via the web that are licensed and insured, but also taking recommendations from friends who have housekeeping help.

DH and I have very busy careers - we both have to work long days, occasional nights and weekends. Neither of us really have the option to pull back. We have a 3 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. DH is a big believer in day care - so they both go. Overall, things are okay, but DH and I are just exhausted all the time. We have to chase the baby until she goes to bed and then we clean up the house, make lunches for daycare, do laundry, etc.

DH does not like having people in our house while we are there - he would not be comfortable asking someone to do chores while we are there. I was thinking about hiring someone to cook, clear the dishwasher, do laundry etc., while we are not home. That way, we would have less tasks to complete at night and could just hang out with the kids.

Has anyone done this? How did you find the person? Did it help you a lot? Thanks for reading!
