I'm a yogi and love a good, challenging, hot yoga session. My prenantal studio classes are nothing like that. But I love the peaceful, restorative style even more. I hope it finds a way to appease your yoga desire during pregnancy. You and that baby deserve it.

Prenatal yoga is not meant to be a hard workout. Prenatal yoga focuses on strengthening the pelvic floor and teaching you positions for relaxation, pain relief and childbirth. I did it through most of my pregnancy with 3 different teachers and they all were slow and relaxing.

I did Jennifer Wolfe's prenatal yoga DVDs, and I found them challenging. (I was also a hot vinyasa flow addict before pregnancy.)
I also did studio prenatal classes. Those really depended on the teacher. Some classes were challenging, others were pretty sleepy... but I still enjoyed the time to get out and meet other pregnant mamas-to-be.

I LOVE my studio yoga class. I meet dozens of awesome fellow preggies AND the class is taught in several levels so she offers poses for each woman based on their comfort. That said please make sure you check before you take a regular yoga class because there are some serious injuries that can occur like the center seam of your abdominals separating from twists or long term back injuries.

I haven't, but am curious to try. I have some hyperextended ligaments pre-pregnancy though, so am worried I'd over stretch.

I know I've seen you post on other threads about your lower half getting larger, just wanted to share that I've read (and my doctor reassured me) that fat that settles on the rear/thighs is where the baby gets it DHA and other important brain fats from. I don't normally carry weight there, but my OB encouraged me to think of it as brain food and not obsess. So that is what is helping me even though I'm continuing to eat healthy and exercise. Food for thought!

I did prenatal yoga at a studio and found it was very different from traditional yoga. It was more focused on pelvic floor and other exercises geared towards preparing for labor and all the changes going on in your body. At this same time I was also taking boot camp and spin classes, so I was ok with a lower-key yoga class. As I got further along, there were times when the class was challenging but certainly not to a high-level. It might be good to think about going now and again, or as you get further along if you find your traditional classes get to be too much. I haven't been able to attend in a while because the schedule was just not working for me. Maybe now that I'm on bed rest I'll give it another shot. It might be good for my blood pressure.

I'm thinking of taking a pn yoga class that starts in a week and half. I'm 10 weeks and I'm still a little scared to do anything too strenuous, though, so a slow boring one, sounds like a good start to me! However, I can see why this might get dull as time goes on!

So far, I've just been stretching and walking for exercise. I used to run/swim/cycle, but I feel better about taking it easier than that right now.

I did Jennifer Wolfe's Complete Prenatal Vinyasa Yoga DVDs at home and took classes with the Prenatal Yoga Center of NYC. The in-studio classes were not challenging, but it was still nice to take the time out to do the class every week. I eventually had to stop yoga because of my pelvic girdle pain--but the DVD was a bit more challenging than the class I took.

@jholler25: I did DVD's at home because there wasn't anything available in my area for a studio class. I did Shiva Rea and Crunch - Shiva Rea was definitely more challenging and she has three people, one in 1st tri, one is 2nd and one in 3rd so each pose is a little modified.

I loved prenatal yoga! I couldn't have gotten through my pregnancy without it. I wasn't a diehard yogi to begin with though, the studio classes definitely stretched me hardcore. I have done hot yoga before and it sure is a workout!! I want to become better at yoga for sure.

Okay, I'll give my review in case anyone sees this later...Studio PN is better, but I'm still not going to control my thigh spread with it. Going to just start taking regular vinyasa flow classes and modifying...

So I am a Yogi. I heart it. I love hot yoga and vinyasa flow. In other words, I don't like sleepy yoga. I haven't done yoga since my 2ww in March. Now that I'm safely in the second tri, I want to work it back in to my routine. I had a hard time finding a prenatal yoga class nearby, so I bought a dvd on Amazon that had pretty good ratings. Well it made me fall asleep it was so slow and boring. I like to flow, and I like to sweat.

I finally found a prenatal class in a studio that I'm going to later this morning...Has anyone taken a PN yoga class in a studio? I'm half excited to get back into yoga, and half worried that I'm going to be there for an hour and a half thinking "What a damn waste of my life and I'm too nice to walk out in the middle of the class and be rude to the instructor..."

Was your PN yoga class challenging? Or did you fall asleep and burn about 3 calories?
