DH works out of town and I'm on my own every Sunday night to Thursday night. My LO is 1 month old and extremely colicky, and I don't leave the house during the week because I can't lift her in her car seat (c-section). My incision is not healing because I can't avoid tons of bending and lifting at home, LO needs to be held and rocked constantly. I have to go back to work full-time in 2 weeks (I'm working from home part-time right now). :-( My life is a major pity party right now.

my DH is on the exact same schedule as @Smurfette (is he in consulting btw?) and i have to say it is tough having 24 hours a day with baby and no break. on thurs nights i just want to hand off the baby to DH and crawl into bed. so i feel for you @PrincessBaby!! you've got it way tougher than i do! and yes, i said the exact same thing about single moms. they deserve a boatload of respect and admiration.

DH usually travels, leaves Mon am and gets back late Thurs. All depends on what project he is on at the time. He is in town right now but after baby is born he will be on a new one. So I will be on my own for days at a time. Going to be hard especially when I go back to work and doing day care pick and everything else.

DH works long hours and doesn't get home until after LO is in bed, and he leaves for work before LO wakes up in the mornings. It was rough in the beginning but now I love the special time alone with my LO. Sounds like you are doing great! It's hard work, but SO worth it! I can't imagine it being the other way were I only saw LO every once in awhile. Growing up my dad was navy and he would be gone for 6 months at a time. My mom did an amazing job taking care of my brother and I.

@PrincessBaby: she worked but not until I was probably 4. My brother would have been two. She worked at the church preschool/kindergarten I went to - brother went to babysitter until he could start kindergarten too (age 3). Do what you think is best !! If you don't have to work I say enjoy your time with Harper !

@coacheswife123: thank you! Did your mom work? I have a pretty badass job-complete w/a free car/gas- but I 'm considering not working for. Few years bc I think having an offshore parent is too much when the other parent is also working...

Me! DH lives and works out of town. He is currently gone for 2 weeks on business! He'll be back for a 24 hour visit this weekend. Pretty sad! He is getting two secretaries soon though so it'll be nice when he's home more. I have an amaaaaazing baby, but some times I just want a break! (And I work full time).

No advice but just wanted to send encouragement ! You can do it !!! My dad worked off shore until I was in 6th grade so my mom was sole caregiver for me and my little brother for years !!! Seriously, you CAN do this ! And from a total daddy's girl - Harper will looooove when her daddy gets home from shift !!! :)

My DH works offshore and he's gone 3 weeks at a time. We don't have family here, so it's just me & H. It hasn't been so bad, but we still try to get out the house 1x a day so we don't go crazy. We just go shopping at Target or BGap or something...

Anyone else going solo for long periods?

I totally respect single moms now! This is a lot of work for one person:)
