@keiki_mama: lol so glad someone understood the chew sup:) hehe yeah we are totally not against getting a dehumidifier -- I gues I was just confused as to if I would be doing the opposite of what everyone else seemed to be doing! Maybe I will get one now that spring is around the corner. Vancouver spring = endless rain.

My parents are Chinese and they were mortified when we moved a block from the beach because it's too chew sup =) I lived in a basement unit growing up and things definitely get moist. No harm in trying a dehumidifier or just having one around to get your parents off your back.

We had a de-humidifier in the basement at my parents house. It definitely made a difference. But you don't want to buy both. We use a humidifier in our room (baby sleeps in here too) just during the winter since the hot air from our heating system is dry. Once spring rolls around we won't use it any more.

We have a little digital clock/thermometer thingy that we bought on amazon and it tells us the % humidity. Here in south florida its about 65%. If we could afford it i would get a dehumidifier.
I would buy the gizmo and go from there.

I've been reading the humidfier posts on hb today and been wondering if I should be getting one for LO!

We live in a basement suite and LO's room is the only room that is completely underground -- we also live in rainy Vancouver and so this makes his room a bit 'clammy/cold/damp' -- their's a chinese word for it "chew sup" that my mom always uses when she visits -- since he was born my mom has been BEGGING me to get a de-humidifier to get rid of all the extra 'water' in the air. We haven't yet, but I'm confused if I should be getting:

1. a humidifier instead
2. a de-humidifier only
3. BOTH a humidfier AND dehumidifier.

LOL..... anyway, been thinking about it for the last few months and thought maybe one of you had some advice! :)
