@cyan: He was getting up every sleep cycle and relying on falling asleep on our chests to get back to sleep. I think this would be worth a shot for you! I watched him wake up and put himself back to sleep twice last night and I was so proud :)

@grizz: I have a horrific sleeper and I am desperately seeking a new method to try. Did your little guy wake up constantly to nurse or "just because"? I think my LO is having a hard time stringing sleep cycles together (waking up every 30-45 minutes, but not hungry), and short of CIO (big fail in this household!), I can't really find a method that seems to address this issue. Maybe this one is worth a shot?

@cmomma17: I stay til he's asleep, but he's gone down pretty quickly so far. He had one hour long wake up last night, but DH didn't follow the routine and kept letting DS fall asleep on him, then trying to transfer to the crib... which I'm sure contributed.

C got up TWICE last night. I hear angels singing! I slept til 4 a.m., and it was glorious!

@grizz: awesome! I'm glad you're having success with it! My LO is doing pretty well! Usually it takes about 10 minutes or less for him to fall asleep. And he's sleeping a good 4 or 5 hours straight which is AMAZING in our house! Now if only I could go to sleep instead of sitting up worrying about him, lol

I was wondering what the next step would be for me. I guess I should do a few nights of sitting further away from the crib instead of right up on it? (sometimes he will pat me on the head, lol). Do you have a time limit of any kind or do you just stay until he's asleep?

It's early days, but last night was a major improvement! 3 hours, then a one hour long wake up, then 4.5 hours (!!!!) with a quick nursing wake up, then up for the day at 7:30. I'm so happy I could cry!

@Dagny: Our ped likes it because it has step by step instructions, and also has a workbook. He used it with his own twins, so I'm hopeful! I do night time alone (DH isn't even home) so any kind of CIO would be brutal on me.

@GRIZZ- I know what you mean - I don't think I've ever really had a good period of sleep with LO. And didn't mean to alarm you, I'm sure many babies don't experience a regression around 9 months.
@THENETEXAN - glad to hear that! I think I may have todo this..

We used that process to sleep train and I was shocked at how well it went. The first several days were hard for us though. Like any other sleep Plan, consistency is the key to success. LO was 7 mos when we sleep trained.

Haven't heard of her, but will look her up. Mostly wanted to say that the day I called our ped to talk about D's horrific sleep was the best decision and day of my life. Just knowing we were going to be counseled etc., about it was such a weight off. So good on you guys making the call. :)

I read her book but didn't end up following it because we were blessed with a relatively easy sleeper. I liked her approach though - gentle but not *too* gentle, supportive, non-judgmental and not dogmatic. I still read her blog and email newsletter sometimes.

@grizz: :( that you're still struggling with sleep. I don't know anything about her plan - but glad you have one and hope it changes things for you soon!! Also, we didn't experience a 9 month regression so it's not a given.

I've kind of read through it and taken things here and there but I don't follow it on its own. I did what felt right to me depending on what I thought the "problem" at the time was. I do hope this works for you..it seems like a fairly gentle method.

Also, there is NOTHING that says your ds WILL have a 9 month regression, so I wouldn't worry about it. Plus, if it gets better and then regresses a bit it still won't be as bad as it is now from the sounds of it. My daughter didn't go through the 4 month regression that everyone talks about but did go through what could have been the 9 month one. All babies are different. Hang in there!
