@QBbride: I have a love/hate with the minicrib. mattresses aren't the best or theyre insanely overpriced for something you will be using for max two years. good idea with keeping the crib. I don't expect to get more than a year out of mine but it fits and its cute

We use this mini PnP thing:http://www.gracobaby.com/products/pages/travel-lite-crib-with-stages-manor.aspx

DD has only been home one night so I can't really speak that much about its use... but th bassinet part looks comfy enough. She didn't complain.

I know firm surfaces are best but the PnP mattress is like 1/2 inch thick with metal bars right below!! My son always refused to sleep in it. I hadn't considered that it might be difficult to find sheets etc. Good point!! my DS is quite small for his age (not tall, 25 lbs at 26 months) and DD is small so far (almost 8 lbs at 4 weeks old) so I don't think we would outgrow it quickly.

Thanks ladies! So many things to think about.

We had a mini crib and used it comfortably until DD was 23 months. Sheets were a pain to find, but otherwise, it was perfect. She was always of slightly above average height and weight.

If just get a really nice sheet for the PNP, no mattress...firm surfaces are best.

@QBbride: we had a mini crib :)
we were house-hunting when I was pregnant, but weren't finding anything, so it got put on hold. we decided to get the mini-crib for our room while my (WAH) husband could eventually sort his office out to make room for the baby's room.
well, our baby got too big for it pretty quickly and since it didn't transition to a toddler bed, we ended up buying a regular sized crib that converted into a toddler bed and then a twin bed.
looking back, it probably wasn't worth it.
(also, has really odd sized mattress pads and fitted sheets, not many options)

@QBbride: I think they actually say that firmer sleeping surfaces are better for you back and definitely what's recommended for an infant. We stopped using the bassinet for a while and then had to use the PnP on vacation and I was really worried that he'd hate it. I almost ordered an extra mattress pad on amazon. But cheapness won out and I skipped it and he was fine.

@QBbride: graco also sells a thicker mattress for the pack and play- but not sure if you can use it with the bassinet part.

@ShootingStar: we do! I hadn't thought about that. The mattress seems super uncomfortable but there is a place here that cuts dense foam for PnPs. I feel like a proper mattress is better for her back but I don't know. It would be nice to get away with not buying a second crib if we didn't have to!

Do you have a PnP? I would just use that until you're ready to transition your DS. My LO used the PnP bassinet until about 7 months old. I liked having him close by with MOTN feedings.

I had two friends who had them. One used it for at least a year and was happy- average size baby. One had a super tall baby who outgrew it by four months or something crazy. They just used a pack and play after that until they moved (one bedroom, no space for a full crib until the move).

My DD is 5 weeks old and sleeps in a basinet. We would like to move her into a crib soon and now I'm considering a mini crib. My DS (26 months) is still in his crib and I'm thinking by the time DD outgrows get crib that DS will be out of his and she can move into his.

Do you like it? Hate it? How old do you think your kiddo will be when they outgrow it?
