@honeybear: Instantaneous. Ours couldn't tell speeding, though. I'm not sure how it could tell speeding unless it had some kind of low-jacking device to know where I was and the corresponding speed limit.

We just sent ours back and got a decent discount, I think it dropped my monthly payment by around $20? It was annoying when it beeped by mostly for DH since he drives worse than I do when it comes to sudden stops lol  We both still scored about the same so it gives quite a bit of leeway. I thought it was worth it, I barely noticed it most days and the discount is permanent.

@Raindrop: @Mrs.KMM: Yeah, I hear you on that. I'm on the fence. But we're low risks because we really don't drive much--like, not even every day--so I think it might lower our premiums.

@LBee: Thanks! Ahh, the buzzing would drive me up the wall! That's good to know. I'd read that there were "alerts" if you started too fast or slammed on the brakes, but I wasn't sure if they were instantaneous.

We don't have progressive so we don't have the option. But I have always thought that they seemed a little Big Brother to me!

I have not... personally it feels too much like 'the man' is watching me type of thing.

I do have a few friends that use it and say the love it and one told me it saved him like 150 dollars a year.

We did it!

I got the discount, but my husband did not. A little ironic as I totaled my car whilst using it. I guess that didn't register.

The thing drove us NUTS. It sometimes read us as slamming on the breaks when we weren't, which was really frustrating. I also got to the point where I would almost be tempted to run a stop sign just to avoid a damn beep.

I can't remember what we saved. It was nice to be able to tell my husband (after totaling my car) that Progressive thought I was a better driver than him.

One pointer - if you are planning any trips or anything, it records the amount of miles you use. We didn't realize this and (in actuality) I think this is why my husband didn't get a discount.

I'm not sure if any other car insurance companies use devices like this to monitor driving habits, but does anyone have experience with these devices?

If you have installed one, did you get a discount when you renewed? Any thoughts?
