We had a futon in mine when my baby didn't sleep in it, and it was a guest room as well. Our plan had always been for her to sleep on a floor bed, so we started putting her down to nap on it pretty early (firm mattress, no blankets etc). It was great for nursing her to sleep or just napping with her, which we often do. When she started rolling the mattress went straight to the floor, and she now sleeps on it full time.

When we did that, we finished a basement room to be a guest room.

@littlecasita1122: Your nursery/guest room is so nice and big! I'm so jealous now.
We are in a 1 bed now but will probably move to a 2 when we have a baby and we'd like to keep our queen in the nursery, but I don't have high hopes that our second bedroom will be big enough unless we move way out of the city, which we don't want to do.
@artbee: I am envisioning the guest portion of it being for before LO is actually sleeping in there (like, when my mom comes to visit after future baby is born). Or, having LO sleep in our room while we have guests later on. Not a guest and LO in the same room.

All of these pictures look awesome! I wish we could do something like that, it would be nice to have that as a guestroom too. But LO is such a light sleeper,it would never work for her.

I will take a pic of ours later -- we are also in a 2 bed townhouse... We had had a queen bed in the second room but got rid of it, got a twin (that I may add a trundle to at some point) and got everything else in nicely I think.

We have a full size bed but we are going to change it out to a twin bed once I start on the nursery. DH works late and is such a light sleeper, I imagine I'll be sleeping in the nursery a lot. We'll probably do a set up like @luckypenny.

We have this exact set-up in our townhouse. Our two bedrooms are very long rectangles and the doorways are in the middle of the wall so we set up the nursery on one side and then moved our guest bed, nightstand tables and dresser to the opposite side. Here are a couple pics showing the two sides (it's impossible to take one picture of the whole room at once):

I would search Pinterest, ontobaby.com, or apartment therapy. They have tons of ideas and lots of different inspiration! I did that when I was trying to find ideas on how to layout our nursery/office/closet.

We have a twin bed in there, just pushed to one of the corners with lots of pillows on it. We use it for post-bath getting dressed/story/nursing, and from time to time will sleep on it together with LO if he's having a rough night.

Thanks for your answers ladies!

@coco bee - your sister's nursery sounds super cute! That's what I would like to do, but our room is a bit awkwardly shaped. I have a friend who is really good at decorating, so I'll have to ask her once I tell everyone! (not for awhile still!)

My sister does :) it's the guest room slash nursery. And often she and her son sleep in there together as her husband has to get up early for work and is bothered by her son's night wakings.

They have a full bed pushed up against one wall, the dresser/changing pad/mirror in the opposite wall and the crib between them. It actually looks super cute!

We have a two bedroom as well and will be keeping a queen-sized bed in there when the baby comes. We have a pretty large second room though so I have no problems seeing it working in my mind. Definitely doable though in many other situations because I've seen a fair number of nursery reveals who have pulled it off nicely. I am actually really excited to have a bed there close by for those nights I just want to collapse nearby!

We had a twin mattress on the floor for a while. It wasn't pretty but it was definitely helpful for the early months. Also, I have a friend whose nursery had an ikea futon type thing that opened into a twin size bed, and that was really nice space-saving solution.

Hi ladies,
Well we only have a 2-bedroom townhouse and I'd like to be able to keep the extra bed (double bed) in the nursery for guests and for me to sleep in if we're having a rough night. I'm having a hard time visualizing this, has anyone done this and have photos?
